Director of Financial Risk
ABOUT THE ROLE:
At Tide, we're building the leading financial platform for small businesses. As we continue to grow across multiple markets, strong financial risk management is essential to helping us scale safely, responsibly and sustainably.
As our Director of Financial Risk, you'll lead our global 2LOD Financial Risk team and shape how we identify, assess and oversee financial risks across the business. You'll own our financial risk framework while providing independent oversight, challenge and trusted advice to 1LOD teams across:

FP&A (management accounting & commercial finance),
Finance Operations (including account operations, reconciliations, AP & AR, payroll)
Treasury
Finance Product (systems support for Finance).
Corporate Development (for any CorDev working impacting FinRisk)
As well as the Regional Heads/Directors of Finance that coordinate these functions for their region (UK, EU, India).
This is a highly visible leadership role, and you’ll be at the forefront of scaling in new markets, working on new licences, and new products. We are looking for not just a deep subject matter expert, but a trusted leader to help us scale whilst managing our financial risks. You will need to be a strong collaborator, as you'll work closely with a variety of stakeholders, from senior leadership and executives to auditors and banking partners, to ensure Tide remains financially resilient while continuing to innovate for our members.
WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING
This is a global role in which you will:
Own and evolve Tide's Financial Risk Management Framework, ensuring it grows with the business as we expand into new markets, launch new products and operate under new licences.
Provide independent oversight and challenge of 1LOD activities relating to financial risks, working mostly with Finance and Treasury. You need to be deeply familiar with how a global Treasury function works, to be able to identify and manage risks arising.
Ensure alignment of financial risk governance across all regulated entities and jurisdictions.
Maintain and enhance financial risk appetite metrics, limits, triggers, and escalation protocols.
Deliver clear and independent reporting to Group and entity-level Risk & Compliance Committees and Boards.
Monitor capital adequacy, liquidity, concentration risks, and financial resilience.
Support regulatory engagements, audits, thematic reviews, and licence applications.
Independently oversee treasury and liquidity management activities.
Review and challenge liquidity forecasting methodologies and stress assumptions.
Maintain existing risk policies and frameworks, and develop new ones as required.
Lead financial risk assessments for new products, partnerships, and market launches.
Partner with other Risk & Compliance teams, various Finance teams, Legal and Internal Audit teams to ensure integrated risk management.
Present concise and insightful risk reporting to Risk & Compliance Committees, and lead on the Financial Risk Working Groups
Lead a high-performing and experienced global financial risk team.
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR:
We're looking for someone who combines deep technical expertise with excellent judgement and the ability to influence across the organisation.
You'll likely have:
Significant experience leading Financial Risk within fintech, payments, e-money, banking or another regulated financial services environment.
Experience operating in a 2LOD leadership role.
Strong knowledge of financial risk frameworks within payment institutions, e-money institutions or digital banking.
Deep expertise across treasury, liquidity, solvability, capital, solvency, statutory reporting and tax risk.
Accounting expertise; ideally with an accounting qualification.
Experience working across multiple regulatory jurisdictions and engaging directly with regulators and auditors.
The ability to balance strong risk management with commercial ambition in a fast-moving business.
Excellent communication skills, with the confidence to influence senior stakeholders and provide independent challenge when it matters.
A collaborative leadership style, with experience building and developing high-performing teams.
Most importantly, you'll enjoy working in a fast-paced environment, be comfortable navigating change, and care about helping Tide build a resilient business that continues to deliver for our members.
