About the Role

MedTrainer is seeking a qualified Tribal Healthcare Content Reviewer to provide clinical, educational, cultural, and Tribal healthcare subject matter oversight for healthcare education developed for Tribal, Native American, and Alaska Native audiences. The reviewer will ensure course content aligns with current Indian Health Service (IHS) guidance, Tribal healthcare practices, federal regulations, and culturally responsive educational principles.

The ideal candidate will be a subject matter expert, healthcare professional, or Tribal health consultant with deep expertise in Native health administration, IHS regulatory standards, and Indigenous cultural safety. Candidates must have current working experience within Tribal health facilities (IHS, Tribally operated 638 programs, or Urban Indian Organizations) or Tribal healthcare governance, alongside a strong understanding of evidence-based, whole-person, and culturally grounded practices across diverse Native American and Alaska Native communities.

Important Note: Because Tribal Nations are diverse and sovereign, no single individual is expected to represent the perspectives or practices of all Tribal communities. The reviewer will provide guidance based on professional expertise while recognizing that additional consultation may be appropriate for content specific to individual Tribal Nations or regional healthcare systems.

Key Responsibilities:

Cultural & Instructional Content Oversight

Review course modules, scripts, slide decks, and participant materials to ensure respectful, strengths-based, and culturally responsive representation of Native American and Alaska Native populations.

Ensure instructional content incorporates principles of cultural safety, trauma-informed care, and whole-person, culturally grounded healthcare approaches relevant to Tribal communities.

Evaluate educational scenarios, case studies, and quiz questions to ensure they reflect the authentic daily realities of rural, remote, urban, and Tribal healthcare delivery.

Regulatory & Compliance Alignment

Review course materials for alignment with current Indian Health Service (IHS) guidance, Tribal healthcare practices, Tribal governance principles, and other Tribal-specific regulatory or operational considerations relevant to the educational content.

Review content to ensure it respects Tribal Data Sovereignty and aligns with community-led governance principles.

Provide expert guidance on evolving Indian Health Service guidance, Tribal health policies and practices, Tribal governance practices, and other developments affecting Tribal health systems.

Subject Matter Advisory & Collaboration

Collaborate directly with MedTrainer’s Instructional Designers, Regulatory Research Specialists, and Learning Directors to refine course objectives and learning outcomes.

Provide actionable, constructive feedback and textual revisions on drafted training content in a timely manner.

Assist in addressing learner feedback or regulatory queries related to Tribal health coursework.

Advise when Tribal consultation, community review, or additional subject matter expertise may be appropriate for specific educational content.

Qualifications:

Education and Professional Background:

Required:

Bachelor's degree in healthcare, public health, education, social services, or related field or an equivalent combination of education and substantial professional experience in Tribal healthcare, Indian Health Service (IHS), Tribal governance, or Native health programs.

Demonstrated subject matter expertise in Tribal healthcare operations, healthcare compliance, public health, clinical practice, healthcare administration, or culturally responsive healthcare delivery.

Preferred:

Master's degree or higher in Public Health, Healthcare Administration, Nursing, Social Work, Health Policy, Education, or a related discipline.

Current or previous clinical or professional licensure (RN, NP, PA, MD, DO, LCSW, PharmD, etc.), when applicable to the candidate's area of expertise.

Established relationships with Tribal healthcare organizations, Tribal leadership, or Urban Indian Organizations, and demonstrated understanding of Native American and Alaska Native healthcare through professional experience, community engagement, or lived experience, are strongly preferred.

Experience:

Three to five years of progressively responsible experience working within or consulting for Indian Health Service (IHS) facilities, Tribally operated P.L. 93-638 contract/compact health programs, or Urban Indian Organizations (UIOs).

Experience reviewing, developing, implementing, delivering, or evaluating healthcare education, clinical guidance, quality improvement initiatives, or healthcare policies within Tribal healthcare settings.

Proven track record of working with Tribal leadership, Tribal Epidemiology Centers (TECs), or community health boards.

Demonstrated ability to work respectfully across diverse Tribal Nations while recognizing that no single practice or perspective represents all Native communities.

Skills and Competencies:

Deep knowledge of IHS organizational structures, federal-Tribal healthcare relationships, and Tribal Data Sovereignty principles.

Strong familiarity with the regulatory and operational environment of Tribal healthcare, including Indian Health Service guidance, Tribal governance principles, Tribal Data Sovereignty, and the application of federal healthcare requirements within Tribal health systems.

Exceptional written communication, editing, and analytical skills with high attention to detail.

Ability to evaluate healthcare content using current evidence-based guidance while recognizing the importance of culturally specific Tribal practices and community priorities.

Ability to distinguish between broadly applicable Tribal healthcare principles and practices that may vary among individual Tribal Nations or communities.

Ability to provide balanced, constructive feedback while recognizing the diversity of Tribal communities and avoiding generalized assumptions about Native American or Alaska Native populations.

Ability to evaluate educational materials for clarity, learner engagement, cultural appropriateness, and practical applicability within Tribal healthcare settings.

Compensation: Compensation will be provided as a fixed contractor fee of $45 USD/hour for the scope of work described above. Additional review requests, consultation, or services outside the agreed scope may be compensated separately upon mutual agreement.
