Structural Dynamics Engineer – Advanced Concepts
The Structural Dynamics Engineer will develop and apply structural dynamic models and analyses for an advanced narrowbody aircraft. The role will support airframe and propulsion-integration design through modal, vibration, forced-response, aeroelastic, and test-correlation work. This position will be based onsite at our South Burlington, VT office location, our Raleigh, NC office. Remote candidates may be considered for a hybrid role, with monthly visits to South Burlington, VT for in person work.
How you will contribute to revolutionizing electric aviation:
Develop and maintain mass- and stiffness-representative finite element models for structural dynamics and aeroelastic applications
Perform modal, harmonic, random-vibration, transient, and base-input analyses for aircraft structures and installed equipment
Evaluate wing, pylon, propulsion, control-surface, and aircraft-system dynamic response and identify governing sensitivities
Convert analysis results into clear structural, mass-property, damping, isolation, instrumentation, and interface requirements
Support ground vibration, component vibration, and structural coupling test planning and model correlation
Work with Loads, Aeroelasticity, Flight Controls, Propulsion, Stress, Design, Test, and Manufacturing teams
Document methods, assumptions, uncertainty, results, and design recommendations for technical reviews
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field
Three or more years of structural dynamics, vibration, aeroelasticity, finite element analysis, or related test experience
Strong fundamentals in modal analysis, structural dynamics, and finite element methods
Experience with NASTRAN, FEMAP, MATLAB, Python, or comparable engineering tools
Ability to communicate technical results and work effectively across engineering disciplines
Must be a US Person to be considered for the role
Above and Beyond Qualifications:
Aircraft wing, pylon, propulsion-installation, control-surface, flutter, or forced-response experience
Experience supporting ground vibration or component vibration testing and model correlation
Knowledge of aircraft certification considerations for structural dynamics or aeroelasticity
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
This role requires extended computer work and regular access to office, laboratory, hangar, and test environments. Occasional travel and use of standard personal protective equipment may be required.
