Structures Design Engineer - Advanced Concepts
As a Structures Design Engineer on the Advanced Systems team, you will develop primary and secondary airframe components for advanced aircraft from concept through flight test. You will translate requirements, loads, interfaces, and manufacturing constraints into practical structural designs and controlled product definition. This position will be based onsite at our South Burlington, VT office location, our Raleigh, NC office. Remote candidates may be considered for a hybrid role, with monthly visits to South Burlington, VT for in person work.
How you will contribute to revolutionizing electric aviation:
Develop primary and secondary metallic, composite, and hybrid airframe components
Create and maintain three-dimensional CAD, drawings, and controlled definition for structure, joints, interfaces, and installations
Translate requirements, loads, geometry, systems interfaces, and manufacturing constraints into structural design requirements
Support structural layout, configuration, and interface trades across airframe components
Perform preliminary sizing and hand calculations; collaborate with Stress to mature and substantiate designs
Design for manufacturing, assembly, inspection, maintainability, repair, weight, cost, and schedule
Support design reviews, product release, manufacturing, build, and test issue resolution
Coordinate with Stress, Loads, Aerodynamics, Dynamics, Materials and Processes, Systems, Manufacturing, and suppliers

Working knowledge of load paths, structural sizing, composite or metallic design, joints, fasteners, GD&T, and configuration control
Experience producing detailed CAD, drawings, or controlled product definition and supporting hardware manufacture
Ability to make sound design decisions, document assumptions, and communicate risks and interfaces clearly
Must be a US Person to be considered for the role
Above and Beyond Qualifications:
Aircraft structural design experience on wing, fuselage, empennage, control-surface, high-lift, propulsion-installation, or other airframe components
Experience with both composite and metallic airframe structures or supplier design packages
