Role Overview:

As a Staff Software Engineer I, you serve as a technical leader who drives the architecture and development of complex, high-impact software systems across HCP. You apply deep engineering expertise to ambiguous technical challenges, establish scalable solutions and patterns, and influence engineering decisions beyond your immediate projects. You collaborate closely with product managers, designers, and engineers to translate business needs into reliable, performant, and maintainable systems. You also elevate engineering practices through technical mentorship, thoughtful design decisions, and continuous evaluation of emerging technologies and approaches.

Compensation: 8 200 - 9 700 USD per month (B2B)

What you do each day:

Design and implement scalable, high-quality software solutions that address complex business and technical requirements

Lead technical architecture and design decisions for high-impact initiatives across multiple systems

Collaborate with product managers, designers, and engineers to define technical requirements, tradeoffs, and implementation approaches

Write clean, maintainable, and efficient code that establishes and reinforces engineering best practices

Conduct code and design reviews and provide actionable technical guidance to engineering peers

Troubleshoot complex software issues and drive solutions through root-cause analysis and systematic problem solving

Optimize application performance, reliability, scalability, and maintainability

Develop and maintain technical documentation, architectural patterns, and reusable engineering standards

Evaluate emerging technologies and recommend approaches that improve engineering quality, efficiency, or scalability

Mentor and support engineers by sharing technical expertise and strengthening engineering capabilities across the team

Qualifications:

5+ years of professional software engineering experience using programming languages and frameworks (i.e. Ruby on Rails, PHP, Python, JavaScript)

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related field, or equivalent work experience

Experience developing web applications and working with content management systems (i.e. WordPress, Strapi, Contentful)

Strong understanding of designing, building, and consuming Representational State Transfer (REST) application programming interfaces (APIs)

Strong proficiency with version control systems and collaborative development workflows (i.e. Git)

Knowledge of performance optimization techniques, caching mechanisms, and content delivery networks (CDNs)

Experience with performance tuning, memory optimization, and related diagnostic tools

Strong proficiency with continuous integration and continuous deployment (CI/CD) practices

Strong understanding of software architecture, system design, scalability, and reliability principles

Proven experience driving team efficiency or output quality through the strategic use of AI tools and automation
