About the Role

Expert Research is AlphaSense's expert-call and expert-insights business. Customers use it to find experts, run compliant human- or AI-led interviews, and turn those conversations into research they can act on. We're growing quickly and putting AI at the center of how we build and test.

As Staff Quality Engineer, you will be accountable for quality across this portfolio. You'll set the testing strategy, close the gaps in our most important customer workflows, and help teams ship faster with confidence. You'll work across several engineering teams, and you'll do it without a dedicated QE team or manager, so you'll set direction yourself and bring people along.

What You'll Do

Define the long-term testing strategy for Expert Research, built on "Quality by Design" and "Automation by Default."

Close test coverage gaps on our mission-critical and business-critical workflows, such as call scheduling, expert sourcing, compliance, transcript review, and the client and expert portals.

Build and grow scalable E2E automation, and decide what belongs at the unit, component, API, and E2E layers.

Partner with developers on test planning for new features, so automation is ready as the code is.

Set quality metrics and release gates that teams can measure and act on.

Test AI-powered features, including AI-led interviews and call synthesis, and help define how we validate their output.

Use AI tools to speed up test design, maintenance, and triage, and show others how.

Coach engineers on shift-left and quality-by-design practices, influencing without direct authority.

Requirements

Hands-on E2E automation experience with at least one of Cypress or Playwright, and the willingness to pick up the other.

Strong skills in at least one programming language (such as Ruby, TypeScript/JavaScript, Python, Kotlin, or Java), and comfort working in unfamiliar codebases.

Excellent test design skills, including API testing and a deep understanding of testing theory.

Experience with unit and component testing frameworks (such as RSpec or Vitest) and a clear view of how the test layers fit together.

A track record of using AI tools to speed up software delivery and testing.

Strong understanding of continuous delivery and release gating.

Experience with CI/CD pipeline setup, test management systems (such as Allure TestOps), performance and observability tools.

Proven ability to set direction on your own, without a QE team or manager in place.

Experience coaching engineering teams on quality and influencing across multiple teams.

Strong communication with technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Bonus Points

Experience testing complex, workflow-heavy web apps, such as scheduling, marketplaces, or admin tools.

Experience with compliance-sensitive products or sensitive data, such as transcripts or restricted content.

Experience evaluating AI or LLM output.

Familiarity with Ruby on Rails or Vue.

BS/MS in a relevant technical field.
