We are currently looking for Senior Scrum Master to join our Client team. As a Senior Scrum Master, this is an ongoing role requiring strong experience in Scrum and Agile methodologies, combined with the ability to manage Waterfall-based delivery commitments. The role supports two teams — Finance and Human Resources — each staffed with a Product Owner and engineers, and requires running ceremonies, tracking delivery, and ensuring accurate, well-documented stories for both teams.
The Scrum Master owns timelines, execution, and reporting; the Product Owner retains ownership of the product roadmap and prioritization. The role reports to the Scrum Master Manager, with indirect reporting to the Portfolio Manager and the Heads of Finance and Human Resources.
The role requires minimum 4-hour time zone overlap with Central/Eastern U.S. time zones required, ideally covering the 9:00 AM ET morning window.
Team Composition:
Human Resources team: 5–6 members, including a Product Owner and engineers.
Finance team: 8–9 members, including a Product Owner and engineers.
Key Responsibilities:
1) Leadership, Mentorship, Scrum Facilitation and Coaching:
Lead and facilitate Scrum ceremonies (sprint planning, daily standups, review, retrospective) for two teams — Finance and HR — on a bi-weekly sprint cadence
Guide Product Owners and engineers on Agile best practices while adapting to Waterfall requirements for select projects
Identify and remove risks or blockers to keep delivery on track across both teams.
2) Strategic Planning:
Align sprint execution with Waterfall project timelines and delivery commitments.
Partner with each team's Product Owner on translating roadmap priorities into sprint-level execution (Product Owners retain roadmap ownership).
3) Agile Estimation and Planning:
Own timelines, execution planning, and story point estimation (T-Shirt Sizing, Story Points, etc.) across both teams
Track sprint velocity, story carryover, and estimation accuracy sprint over sprint
Review stories drafted by Product Owners for completeness and accuracy to prevent scope changes or integration issues during planning.
4) Stakeholder Collaboration:
Coordinate daily with Finance and HR Product Owners and engineers to ensure business requirements are clearly understood and documented
Communicate status, risks, and delivery progress to the Head of Finance, Head of HR, and Portfolio Manager.
5) Metrics and Reporting:
Track and report KPIs including delivery of committed story points, estimation accuracy, sprint carryover, and story quality
Maintain accurate documentation of scrum notes, decisions, and business processes discussed during ceremonies.
6) Enterprise Agile Transformation, Continuous Improvement and Innovation:
Support the broader effort to bring consistent Agile/Scrum structure and process discipline to the Finance and HR functions
Promote continuous improvement in story quality, planning accuracy, and cross-team communication.
Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Business, or a related field.
Certified ScrumMaster (CSM) or similar Agile certification.
Minimum 5 years of proven experience as a Scrum Master, with a focus on leading multiple teams.
In-depth understanding of Agile principles and advanced Scrum practices, plus working knowledge of Waterfall project management.
User-level working knowledge of the Workday application (Finance and Payroll modules; light HCM) sufficient to understand business processes and communicate technical needs. Workday administration or configuration experience is not required.
Strong leadership, coaching, and mentoring skills.
Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities, including regular reporting to department leadership (Heads of Finance and HR) and the Portfolio Manager.
Ability to run Scrum ceremonies effectively while also tracking Waterfall-style delivery commitments and timelines.
Ability to review and validate user stories for completeness and accuracy to prevent late-stage scope changes or integration issues.
Experience with Jira, Confluence, Smartsheets, and whiteboard tools (Miro/Mural/Lucid).
User-level understanding of Workday business processes (Finance and Payroll; light HCM) sufficient to translate business needs into accurate stories.
Certification or demonstrated experience with one or more Agile scaling frameworks is preferred.
Proficiency in problem-solving and resolving intricate discrepancies efficiently.
Demonstrated ability to work across multiple teams simultaneously to deliver outcomes.
