About the Role

The Senior Manager, Revenue and Billing is a critical role responsible for owning Billtrust’s end-to-end billing operations and revenue recognition function. You will leverage AI tools and co-worker agents to automate reconciliation, exception detection, and reporting across the quote-to-cash cycle, focusing your expertise on technical revenue accounting, internal control design, and team development.

This role leads a global team of 11, including two direct-report managers based in the U.S. and India, spanning staff accounting, billing analysis, order management, and revenue accounting. You’ll partner across Sales, Legal, FP&A, and IT to structure compliant deals, drive process improvement, and shape the future billing and revenue technology stack.

What You’ll Do

Revenue Accounting & Technical Compliance

Manage day-to-day accounting operations and monthly close of global revenue in accordance with ASC 606, U.S. GAAP, and Billtrust’s revenue recognition policies

Support the company’s initiative to reduce month-end close time by automating manual revenue processes and transitioning toward accrual-based close methodologies

Review and document accounting conclusions for standard and non-standard customer contracts, including SSP studies, contract modifications, and principal vs. agent considerations, exercising sound judgment and defending positions to stakeholders and auditors when necessary

Provide guidance on the revenue recognition implications of contract negotiations; partner with Sales and Legal on deal structures that comply with revenue recognition rules

Billing Operations

Own end-to-end billing operations, including new deal processing, subscription renewals, usage billing, and overages, while monitoring key performance metrics such as time-to-bill and backlog to surface trends, risks, and opportunities

Use AI-powered tools to identify anomalies in billing data, flag exceptions, and accelerate month-end reconciliation

Controls & Cross-Functional Partnership

Partner cross-functionally to resolve complex billing and customer issues as they surface, balancing technical accounting, revenue recognition, and commercial feasibility to deliver a positive customer and cross-functional experience

Partner with FP&A to review monthly revenue trends and anomalies, and develop board-level materials and reporting commentary

Design, implement, and enhance internal controls to ensure SOX compliance and clean integrated audits, and prepare supporting documentation for quarterly and annual external revenue audits, including SSP studies, journal entries, and reconciliations

Consult with Accounting Leadership on complex or non-standard revenue accounting matters, and represent Billing/Revenue in evaluations of the billing and revenue technology stack

Team Leadership

Directly manage two people managers (U.S. and India-based) and provide leadership to a global team of 11 across staff accounting, billing analysis, order management, and revenue accounting

Hire, train, and retain a skilled team of accounting and billing professionals

Build team capability in AI-assisted workflows to improve accuracy and throughput across the quote-to-cash cycle

Set performance goals, conduct reviews, and develop career paths for direct and indirect reports

What You’ll Bring

Required Skills:

10+ years of progressive experience in revenue recognition and billing operations

Extensive technical accounting knowledge of ASC 606 in a SaaS environment, including contract modifications, principal vs. agent considerations, and SSP studies

Demonstrated experience managing people managers and building teams of at least 10, including distributed/global teams

Experience with billing and ERP systems (BillingPlatform, Sage Intacct, or equivalent) and CRM platforms (Salesforce)

Track record designing and implementing SOX-compliant internal controls in a quote-to-cash environment

Track record driving AI adoption across a team or function

Superior written and verbal communication skills, with strong analytical and interpersonal skills

Preferred Skills:

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Accounting

Experience at a ‘Big 4’ audit firm on public company audits

Prior involvement in ERP or billing platform evaluation/migration

Well-honed attention to detail and demonstrated ability to prioritize and delegate in a fast-paced environment
