Principal UI/UX Designer
Role
This role is for a talented UI/UX Designer to join a mission-critical team supporting U.S. Special Operations Command programs at MacDill AFB. In this role, you will play a key part in advancing the command’s ability to harness and operationalize data for smarter, faster decision-making.
As a subject matter expert in User Interface/User Experience, the individual assigned to this role will collaborate closely with data engineers, analysts, and other technical professionals to design, develop, and optimize user-facing interfaces that bring complex data to life. Your contributions will directly support efforts to modernize and enhance data-driven operations across the command.
Responsibilities
UI/UX Designers are responsible for graphics and user interactions ensuring that user centric design is practiced for all product teams. Create content, develop user interfaces, and produce technical documentation in support of core development efforts.
The UI/UX Designer will perform the following tasks:
Create custom graphics icons, brand assets, and style guides to establish t visually cohesive application aesthetic.
Conduct user research, interviews, and contextual inquiries to map out sitemaps, user flows, and information architecture.
Build low-to-high fidelity wireframes and interactive prototypes to visualize software concepts and validate layout decisions with stakeholders.
Write and refine responsive HTML5 and CSS3 code to implement user-facing components directly alongside front-end developers.
Iterate rapidly on interface designs based on user feedback, usability testing, changing operational requirements, and accessibility guidelines.
Translate non-technical user feedback and stakeholder requests into clear, actionable technical guidelines, user stories, and acceptance criteria for software engineering teams.
Write comprehensive UI/UX design specifications, component behavioral guides, and style manuals to streamline design-to-development handoffs.
Document reusable UI component libraries and design governance standards to maintain visual and functional consistency across all product teams.
Requirements
Minimum of 3-years’ experience is required
Strong interpersonal skills for frequent meetings and interviews with users and stakeholders
Aesthetic sense and experience with graphic arts
Proficient in HTML5, CSS3, Graphics, Wire Diagramming
Extensive knowledge of modern design and user experience standards
Ability to respond quickly and productively to user requirements and change requests
Ability to translate user’s requirements into actionable technical guidelines
A Secret Clearance is required.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience and familiarity with the Department of Defense (DoD)
Top Secret Clearance with SCI Eligibility
Salary Range: $117,000.- $278,000
