Principal Software Engineer-  CRM Product Platform

Engineering | Remote - USA

About the Team

HubSpot's Product Platform Engineering org is building the foundational layer that powers how millions of users experience, configure, and get value from the CRM. We own the shared infrastructure, APIs, extensibility surfaces, and product foundations that run across every Hub-  not one feature team, but all of them. When we ship, it shows up everywhere.

We operate as a product-line triad with Product Management and UX- which means tight, fast collaboration from problem discovery through production delivery. The org is in one of its most formative periods: we're redefining how customers interact with and configure HubSpot at a moment when AI is fundamentally changing what's possible in SaaS products. Engineers here don't just execute a roadmap - they help set one.

About the Role

We are seeking a Principal Software Engineer to lead one of the most compelling product challenges in the CRM space right now: making HubSpot deeply, genuinely configurable for every customer-  without sacrificing the reliability and consistency enterprise software demands.

The shift is already happening. Things that once required expensive custom engineering - personalizing workflows, building bespoke CRM applications, extending the product to fit a team's exact needs -  are becoming dramatically more accessible with coding agents and AI. The question we're solving is: how do you productize that level of deep customization at scale? This person won't just follow a technical roadmap-  they'll help define what's possible, build the custom workspaces and extensibility foundations that make it real, and raise the bar for how product-minded engineering gets done across a 100+ engineer org.

Key Expectations

Architectural Leadership for CRM Configurability: Define the technical patterns for how customers can deeply configure and extend HubSpot-  from custom workspaces and no-code/low-code surfaces to AI-powered personalization that scales across millions of users.

Zero-to-One Product Building: Act as the technical anchor for a genuinely new problem space. You stay current with where AI and coding agents are heading, prototype rapidly, and turn early-stage ideas into production-grade product features-  not just POCs.

Hands-On, High-Leverage Contributor: You ship production code at 75%+ of your time. You lead from the front - moving from architectural vision to working software, personally. If your preference is strategy with others implementing, this isn't the role. You architect by delivering.

Cross-Functional Influence at Scale: This work touches ~120+ engineers across multiple groups, plus Product and UX partners. You'll need to build alignment, communicate trade-offs clearly across all levels, and move a large org without steamrolling it.

Technical Mentorship & Multiplier: You elevate the engineers around you-  raising the bar on full-stack product thinking, AI-enabled development, and what it means to build software that customers actually use and love.

Product & Customer Obsession: You understand the pain of a CRM customer who needs software to flex to their workflow, not the other way around. You bring that perspective into every technical decision you make.

What You Bring

Full-Stack Product Engineering Depth: You've delivered meaningful impact on both sides-  backend systems and product-facing layers-  and you own end-to-end. You're not purely infrastructure, and you're not purely UI. You span both because the best product outcomes require it.

AI Shipped to Production: You've gone beyond experimentation. You've delivered AI-powered product features with real user impact-  ideally at the intersection of configurability, extensibility, or no-code/low-code tooling and AI capability.

A Product-First Mindset: You care deeply about the "why" behind the "what." You've built things people use every day, and you advocate for the customer experience in design reviews- even when it means rethinking the technical approach.

SaaS Product Background: You've operated inside a product-led SaaS company that moves fast and operates at scale. You understand the difference between building for enterprise customers and building for storefronts or one-off client engagements. (E-commerce, agency, and IT-cost-center experience tends not to translate to this environment.)

A Bias for Working Software: You prefer a working prototype over a 20-page design doc. You turn ambiguity into clarity through shipped code -  and you're energized, not slowed down, by a problem that doesn't have a clear answer yet.
