Platform Engineer Contractor
POSITION SUMMARY
Join EarnIn's Platform Services team for an internship building AI-powered solutions that directly impact our Platform Infrastructure. You'll own meaningful end-to-end work across two connected workstreams — reducing platform toil and accelerating delivery for every engineer at EarnIn — under the guidance of senior platform engineers. This position is based in Bengaluru, India, with two days a week in-office required as part of our expanding site location, and is a 6-month contract engagement with a start date in January 2027.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
Build components of the AI First Responder agent — an automated on-call triage system that integrates Datadog, Incident.io, and Slack — including agent tooling, evaluation harnesses, and integration workflows.
Contribute to the IaC migration away from Terraform Cloud — refactoring Terraform modules, cleaning up policies, and building migration scaffolding that clears tech debt and accelerates platform delivery.
Use AI-assisted coding tools (Cursor, Claude Code, Copilot, or similar) throughout both workstreams to develop applied AI skills in a real infrastructure context.
Write clean, well-tested, and well-documented code that lasts beyond the internship.
Collaborate with engineers across the Bengaluru and Mountain View Platform teams; present your work and learnings to the broader team.
Shadow incident triage and on-call workflows to build context on production operations (no on-call responsibilities).
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
Currently pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree (B.E., B.Tech, M.Tech, or equivalent) in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field from an Indian university
Experience with Python, Go, or another backend language — coursework or personal projects count.
Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS preferred), containers (Docker), or infrastructure-as-code concepts (Terraform, Kubernetes); classroom or personal-project experience counts.
Eagerness to learn and actively use AI-assisted development tools (Cursor, Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, or equivalent) as part of your day-to-day workflow — this is a core expectation, not a nice-to-have.
Comfort working in a Linux/CLI environment and with Git-based version control.
Ability to communicate progress proactively, ask good questions, and document your work clearly.
Self-starter mindset — you take initiative, seek feedback, and iterate quickly; moderate guidance is a plus.
Prior internship or project experience in platform engineering, infrastructure automation, or site reliability is a plus.
Familiarity with Datadog, PagerDuty, or similar observability and incident-management tools is a plus.
Experience calling LLM APIs (OpenAI, Anthropic, or similar) or building agent-style workflows in a project context is a plus.
Exposure to Kubernetes or Helm in any environment (lab, personal cluster, coursework) is a plus.
