Group Overview

Special Air Missions Group (SAM) is responsible for developing and delivering Metrea’s Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR), Special Mobility, and Aerial Firefighting (AFF) capabilities. SAM oversees the integration of new mission  systems, ensuring operational readiness across specialized aviation operations. It manages fleet maintenance, regulatory compliance, and strategic partnerships to enhance mission effectiveness. By consolidating expertise and infrastructure, SAM  ensures Metrea’s airborne capabilities remain adaptable and mission-ready across dynamic operational environments.

Position Summary

This role is responsible for operating a turbo-prop aircraft in accordance UK CAA and EASA policies and MAFX Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). This role is also responsible for flight planning, conducting aircraft pre-flight check, and coordinating with company site leads and aircrew in order to facilitate mission execution and operations.

What You'll Do

Operate a King Air 200/300 in accordance with EASA/CAA and company/customer directive as the Pilot in Command

Monitor airspace, weather, radio communications, mission flight boundaries, other air traffic, and aircraft systems

Coordinate all flights with appropriate Fixed Based Operators, Air Traffic Contact (ATC) facilities (military and civilian), Company Site Leads, and Mission Coordination Services

Ensure safe, effective and efficient flight operations to include identification of aircraft system malfunctions and performing required corrective actions

Perform ISR (Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance) flights in day, night and all-weather conditions (within defined safety limits)

Must be able to operate from remote, austere locations, possibly on unimproved runways

Completes all safety of flight documentation in accordance with applicable industry and EASA/CAA standards

What You Bring

Education

Minimum of five GCSEs (or equivalent), including English and Mathematics

A-Levels or equivalent further education desirable

Experience

Minimum 1000 hours as Pilot-in-Command (PIC)

At least 300 hours PIC time in multi-engine, turboprop aircraft

Required Licences and Certifications:

UK CAA-issued EASA or Part-FCL Commercial Pilot Licence (CPL) with multi-engine and instrument rating

Must hold and maintain a valid UK Class 1 Medical Certificate

Must possess a valid UK or EU passport

Must consent to provide access to pilot records and background checks in accordance with UK Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) and company compliance requirements

Work Authorization / Security Clearance

The employee will have the legal right to work in the UK and will be able to produce right to work documentation

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position. Employment is contingent upon successful completion of all required training, background checks, and security clearances. Working hours and shift patterns may vary in line with operational demands to support mission effectiveness and customer satisfaction. The role involves rotational deployments within Europe, comprising of mixed deployment lengths on assignment followed by a similar period off rotation, with the UK as the home base of operations.

Work Environment

During deployment, employees may be living under field conditions and must be able to work with little supervision in austere or arduous environments. Work environment varies based on contract.
