About the Role

Our client is looking for an IT Systems Engineer to take ownership of day-to-day internal IT operations and end-user support. You will be responsible for keeping our internal technology running smoothly across a mixed macOS and Windows environment. The role covers:

End-user support

Device management

Microsoft 365 and identity

Business systems

Networking and remote access

User onboarding and offboarding

IT documentation and process improvement

Support for approved AI tools and solutions

This is a hands-on role for someone who is comfortable resolving user issues while also improving the systems and processes behind the service.

What You'll Do

End-user support:

Own and manage day-to-day internal IT support requests

Provide remote and in-person support across macOS and Windows devices

Troubleshoot hardware, software, account, access, networking and collaboration-tool issues

Take ownership of issues through to resolution

Work with third-party suppliers and software vendors where required

Keep users informed while their issue is being investigated

Identify recurring problems and introduce fixes that reduce repeat support requests

Escalate security incidents or more complex infrastructure issues when required

Device management:

Manage the deployment, configuration and ongoing support of company devices

Administer macOS devices through the Jamf platform, including Jamf Pro, Jamf Connect, Jamf Protect and Self Service

Administer Windows devices through Microsoft Intune and Windows Autopilot

Maintain device compliance, encryption, software deployment, patching and security configurations

Support the full device lifecycle, including procurement, enrolment, replacement, recovery and secure disposal

Maintain accurate hardware and software asset records

Troubleshoot device enrolment, compliance and configuration issues

Microsoft 365 and identity:

Administer Microsoft 365, Entra ID and related services

Manage user accounts, groups, licences, shared mailboxes and application access

Support Microsoft Teams, Exchange Online, SharePoint and OneDrive

Assist with Conditional Access, multi-factor authentication and device compliance policies

Carry out access reviews and ensure permissions remain appropriate

Support joiner, mover and leaver processes

Ensure access is provisioned and removed promptly

Investigate Microsoft 365 sign-in, authentication and licensing issues

Business systems:

Support and administer internal business platforms, including Atlassian Cloud, including Jira and Confluence; Slack; Microsoft 365; GitHub and GitLab user access; Approved AI tools and platforms; Other approved business applications

Manage user access, groups, roles and licensing

Assist users with application issues and access requests

Support the rollout and adoption of new internal tools

Maintain an accurate register of business applications, owners and licences

Work with Finance and system owners to identify unused or unnecessary licences

Help ensure business systems are configured consistently and access remains appropriate

Document common support processes and platform configurations

Networking and remote access:

Troubleshoot remote-working connectivity issues

Assist users with OpenVPN configuration and access issues

Troubleshoot common DNS, DHCP, routing and network access problems

Support secure access to internal and hosted services

Work with infrastructure teams and external suppliers on more complex network issues

Maintain documentation for VPN access, network configurations and common connectivity problems

Assist with testing changes that may affect user connectivity or access

The role does not need to be a dedicated network engineer, but the successful candidate should be comfortable investigating common network and remote-access issues.

AI tools and solutions:

Support approved AI tools used across the business

Assist with account creation, licensing, access and user onboarding

Help users troubleshoot approved browser-based, desktop and developer AI tools

Support the rollout of centrally managed AI accounts and organisation licences

Ensure users are directed towards approved tools and access methods

Follow Tangent’s AI governance, data protection and information security requirements

Escalate concerns involving sensitive data, unapproved tools or unusual AI usage

Help maintain internal guidance covering the safe and appropriate use of AI

Support new AI solutions where they have been reviewed and approved for business use

Security and compliance support

Follow and support Tangent’s information security policies and standards

Ensure devices and user accounts meet the required security baseline

Support remediation work arising from security reviews, audits and compliance checks

Assist with endpoint security tools such as SentinelOne, Jamf Protect and Microsoft security services

Escalate suspected security incidents promptly

Help ensure IT processes are documented and followed consistently

Support regular reviews of user access, devices and software

This role will support security and compliance activities but will not own Tangent’s cybersecurity, ISO 27001 or Cyber Essentials Plus programs.

Documentation and continual improvement

Create and maintain internal IT documentation, support guides and standard operating procedures

Improve onboarding and offboarding processes

Maintain clear records of changes, configurations and known issues

Identify opportunities to automate repetitive administration and support tasks

Help improve the employee IT experience across the business

Produce basic reporting on support volumes, recurring issues, device compliance and service performance

Identify gaps in existing processes and recommend practical improvements

What You Bring

Experience working in an IT support, systems administration or IT engineering role

Strong troubleshooting skills across both macOS and Windows

Hands-on experience managing macOS devices using Jamf

Experience administering Microsoft 365 and Entra ID

Experience with Microsoft Intune and Windows device management

Good understanding of identity, user access, multi-factor authentication and device compliance

Experience supporting common business applications and collaboration platforms

Understanding of networking fundamentals, including DNS, DHCP, VPNs and Wi-Fi

Experience managing user onboarding and offboarding

Ability to manage multiple support requests and priorities without losing ownership

Strong written and verbal communication skills

Ability to explain technical issues clearly to non-technical users

A practical and security-conscious approach to IT support

Nice to Have

Experience with SentinelOne or another endpoint detection and response platform

Experience with Jamf Connect, Jamf Protect or Jamf Security Cloud

Familiarity with Atlassian Cloud administration

Experience supporting GitHub or GitLab users and access

Experience configuring or troubleshooting OpenVPN

Experience supporting wireless networks and remote access

Basic scripting or automation experience using PowerShell, Bash or Python

Experience supporting a software development or digital consultancy environment

Experience supporting AI tools such as Claude, ChatGPT, GitHub Copilot or similar platforms

Awareness of the risks involved when users enter company or client data into AI tools

Exposure to managing organisation-level SaaS or AI licences

Awareness of security frameworks and standards such as:

ISO 27001

Cyber Essentials and Cyber Essentials Plus

CIS Controls

NIST Cybersecurity Framework

Experience supporting internal or external audits
