ABOUT THE ROLE

As an Engineering Manager at Tide, you’re an experienced Full Stack Engineering Leader with strong people-management skills, comfortable operating at scale and driving impact through well-designed platforms.

In this critical role, you will lead a cross-functional engineering team (comprising Backend, Mobile, and Web engineers) and partner closely with Product Management to own and lead our global In-Person Acquiring products.

In-Person payments currently account for a significant majority (65%+) of our Acquiring revenue in key markets, making this a highly visible, high-impact domain. You will own the technical direction and end-to-end execution of systems that power our in-house ePOS solutions, Tap to Pay technologies, cross-platform mobile apps, and complex pricing engines. You will oversee the maintenance of highly reliable live products while leading the architectural strategy for critical third-party vendor integrations and hardware partnerships. Additionally, you will drive major platform transformation initiatives and lead the engineering scaling of localized payment networks (such as QR/UPI) across international markets, alongside rollout toolkits for our European expansion.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

Full Stack Leadership: Proven track record directly managing, coaching, and developing cross-functional teams of Backend, Mobile, and Web engineers.

Technical Depth & T-Shaped Leadership: A platform- and tech stack-agnostic engineering leader who is an expert in at least one core domain/platform (e.g., backend or mobile), with the proven ability to translate those core software engineering principles to guide, mentor, and architect solutions across other platforms in a T-shaped leadership model. Extensive experience building robust applications, server-side engineering, mobile app deployment architecture, and scalable system design.

Domain Expertise: Experience in FinTech, specifically within Acquiring, In-Person Payments, ePOS systems, or payment gateway integrations is highly desirable.

Architecture & Scale: Experience engineering scalable, reliable solutions in a cloud-native environment, managing microservices, and implementing RESTful APIs and event-driven systems.

Partner Integrations: Proven experience designing systems that seamlessly integrate with complex third-party vendors, hardware providers, and external payment networks.

End-to-End Ownership: Full ownership of technical solutions across their entire lifecycle, championing engineering best practices from development and testing to production deployment and monitoring.

Strategic Execution: A technical, hands-on leader who can guide architecture decisions, translate complex product strategy into reliable platform solutions, and communicate technical concepts seamlessly to stakeholders.

OUR TECH STACK:

Java, Spring Boot and JOOQ to build the RESTful APIs of our microservices (but we welcome people who are used to any strongly typed general purpose programming language!)

Event-driven architecture with messages over SNS+SQS and Kafka to make them reliable

Primary datastores are PostgreSQL via RDS or Aurora (we are heavy AWS users)

Docker, Terraform, ArgoCD and, EKS provided by the Cloud team to run the platform
