Director, People Systems and Operations
Greenhouse is looking for a Director, People Systems & Operations to join our team!
Reporting to our Chief People Officer and sitting on the People Leadership Team (PLT), you will serve as the strategic and operational leader for our People Operations and People Systems function. You will drive data integrity, compliance, technology enablement, and operational excellence across the entire employee lifecycle, from onboarding through offboarding.
As a champion of continuous process improvement, scalable automation, and you will operationalize Greenhouse's AI-forward approach to how we run our own People function. You will partner closely with COEs — the teams who own hiring, development, rewards, and belonging — to unlock one continuous and coherent employee experience.
Who will love this job
An innovative builder – you are energized by new technology and exploring ways to elevate existing processes with new tools, you thrive when designing seamless and elegant employee processes.
A systems thinker – you are passionate about HR tech, process automation, and analytics, and see AI as a tool for removing friction, not adding it
A data-driven decision maker – you leverage metrics to drive continuous improvement and help leaders retain their best people
An influential champion — You effectively manage relationships across all levels and functions. You drive clarity, empower others and enable business outcomes to support Greenhouse in its next stage of growth. A cross-functional collaborator – you build trust and engagement across teams without needing to own every piece of the outcome
A change architect – you are energized by leading through systems upgrades, AI adoption, policy refreshes, and new ways of working
A growth mindset evangelist — You cultivate winning teams that thrive by unlocking potential and instilling a culture of continuous up-skilling, within your team and throughout the organization.
What you’ll do
Set the strategy and roadmap for Greenhouse’s HR technology ecosystem from implementation, configuration, integrations, user experience, continuous improvement, and vendor relationships.
Own the HRIS as the single source of truth for employee data. Drive automation, data accuracy, governance, stakeholder adoption, and reliable downstream connections to payroll, benefits, analytics, and other People systems.
Use the employee journey to improve the moments that matter—from offer and onboarding through promotions, leaves of absence, and offboarding. Partner with program owners across People to make candidate, manager, and employee experiences more connected and effective.
Build scalable people analytics, dashboards, and self-service tools that give leaders the insight to make better workforce decisions, address retention risks early, and improve information flow to employees and managers.
Own People-related compliance across the employee lifecycle (immigration, leaves of absence, audits, and evolving labor requirements) as Greenhouse grows globally. Serve as the escalation point for complex policy questions, compliance issues, and high-priority employee matters, partnering with Legal as needed.
Lead Greenhouse’s AI-forward evolution within People processes and operations. Apply our AI Principles Framework to People Operations, pilot Greenhouse AI capabilities in our own workflows, and translate learnings into structured feedback for Product.
Champion experimentation and continuous improvement by testing new tools, processes, and workflows in contained ways before scaling them. Partner across IT, Finance, Legal, Talent Acquisition & Planning, Talent Management/Org Development, Total Rewards, and IDEA to align People Operations with company priorities.
Contribute the People Operations perspective to company-wide People strategy as a member of the People Leadership Team, while developing and empowering a high-performing team through clear priorities, coaching, performance management, and growth opportunities.
Additional projects and responsibilities as business needs require
You should have
8+ years of progressive People Operations experience, including 3+ years leading People Operations, HRIS, and/or People Systems teams at the manager or director level.
Deep experience administering and optimizing relevant, global HRIS platforms (Workday, Rippling, HiBob, etc) including implementations, integrations, automation, data integrity, and reporting.
A track record of designing and scaling People processes that improve efficiency, data quality, compliance, or employee experience, with measurable results.
Experience with payroll and benefits integrations, cross-border employee data and reporting requirements, and workforce data privacy; global experience is a plus.
Hands-on experience evaluating, piloting, or implementing AI and automation in a People operations context.
Strong project management, change leadership, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to create structure and momentum in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
An analytical, data-driven approach and proficiency with HR reporting, dashboarding, and self-service tools — paired with the ability to turn workforce data into clear recommendations for leaders.
Experience building and leading high-performing, diverse teams, and the ability to operate as a strategic partner at the leadership-team level while staying close enough to the details of a workflow, system, or dataset.
