The Team:

Upstart's Lifecycle Marketing team is responsible for driving engagement and growth across the customer lifecycle for every Upstart product. The team develops and executes lifecycle strategies that help customers discover, adopt, and deepen their relationship with Upstart through personalized, data-driven experiences across multiple owned channels.

As the Director of Lifecycle Marketing, you will lead the strategy, performance, and evolution of Lifecycle Marketing across Upstart's growing product portfolio. You'll oversee an experienced team of marketing leaders, shape the long-term roadmap for the channel, and partner closely with Product, Analytics, Creative, Product Marketing, and Growth teams to drive meaningful business outcomes.

How you’ll make an impact

Define and execute the long-term Lifecycle Marketing strategy across Upstart's products and customer journeys.

Lead and develop a high-performing team of lifecycle marketing leaders, establishing clear priorities, performance expectations, and opportunities for growth.

Own revenue and performance goals for Lifecycle Marketing, using experimentation, optimization, and automation to improve customer engagement and business results.

Partner closely with Product, Analytics, Creative, Product Marketing, and Growth Marketing teams to prioritize initiatives and deliver customer experiences across email, push, SMS, in-app messaging, and emerging channels.

Establish scalable lifecycle infrastructure, governance, and measurement frameworks that support a growing portfolio of products and more complex customer journeys.

Champion thoughtful adoption of AI and automation to improve lifecycle operations, accelerate experimentation, and increase team productivity while maintaining high quality standards.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.

10+ years of experience in B2C Lifecycle Marketing.

5+ years of direct people management experience, including experience leading managers.

4+ years of hands-on experience building and operating enterprise marketing automation platforms.

Experience owning revenue-driven Lifecycle Marketing programs with accountability for performance targets, experimentation, and measurable business growth.

Preferred Qualifications

Knowledge of enterprise marketing automation platforms such as Iterable.

Experience building lifecycle marketing programs for complex, regulated, or high-consideration customer journeys.

Experience using customer data platforms (CDPs) to create and activate customer audiences.

Ability to leverage AI tools to improve experimentation, workflow efficiency, campaign development, and marketing decision-making.

Skill in translating long-term business strategy into scalable lifecycle programs while influencing cross-functional stakeholders.

Position location This role is available in the following locations: Remote

Time zone requirements The team operates on the East/West coast time zones.

Travel requirements As a digital first company, the majority of your work can be accomplished remotely. The majority of our employees can live and work anywhere in the U.S but are encouraged to to still spend high quality time in-person collaborating via regular onsites. The in-person sessions’ cadence varies depending on the team and role; most teams meet once or twice per quarter for 2-4 consecutive days at a time.

At Upstart, your base pay is one part of your total compensation package.  The anticipated base salary for this position is expected to be within the below range. Your actual base pay will depend on your geographic location–with our “digital first” philosophy, Upstart uses compensation regions that vary depending on location. Individual pay is also determined by job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Your recruiter can share more about the specific salary range for your preferred location during the hiring process.

In addition, Upstart provides employees with target bonuses, equity compensation, and generous benefits packages (including medical, dental, vision, and 401k).

$195,800—$271,000 USD
