Diesel Emissions Test Engineer
Position Summary
We are seeking a highly motivated Engineer to support the development, validation, and performance optimization of diesel engine aftertreatment systems. This individual will play a key role in testing, analyzing, troubleshooting, and improving emissions control technologies including SCR, DPF, DOC, and DEF/urea systems.
The ideal candidate combines strong technical knowledge of diesel emissions and aftertreatment systems with hands-on experience in testing, validation, data analysis, and root cause investigation. This role requires close collaboration with cross-functional engineering teams, suppliers, and testing organizations to ensure system performance and compliance requirements are achieved.
Key Responsibilities
Support development and validation of diesel engine aftertreatment systems and emissions control technologies.
Evaluate performance of SCR, DPF, DOC, DEF, and related emissions reduction systems.
Conduct testing and validation activities on engines, vehicles, and laboratory test setups.
Analyze test data and identify performance issues, trends, and optimization opportunities.
Perform root cause analysis and lead troubleshooting efforts related to emissions system performance.
Investigate failures and develop corrective actions through structured problem-solving methodologies.
Work with calibration, controls, validation, and product engineering teams to improve system performance.
Collect and analyze signals from vehicle and engine testing activities.
Support emissions compliance and performance verification initiatives.
Interface with suppliers and internal stakeholders to resolve technical issues and drive improvements.
Prepare technical reports and communicate findings to engineering and leadership teams.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or related field.
3+ years of experience in diesel engines, emissions systems, aftertreatment systems, or powertrain validation.
Experience with one or more of the following:
SCR (Selective Catalytic Reduction)
DPF (Diesel Particulate Filter)
DOC (Diesel Oxidation Catalyst)
DEF/Urea systems
Diesel emissions systems
Strong troubleshooting and root cause analysis skills.
Experience analyzing engineering test data and developing technical recommendations.
Familiarity with testing and validation processes.
Strong communication and cross-functional collaboration skills.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with calibration tools such as ETAS INCA or CANape.
Experience with CAN-based tools such as CANalyzer, CANoe, Vehicle Spy, or similar.
Diesel engine performance, combustion, or aftertreatment development experience.
Experience supporting engine, vehicle, or emissions testing programs.
Knowledge of catalyst technologies, coatings, substrates, chemical reactions, or emissions reduction strategies.
Experience working with suppliers and external testing partners.
Background in emissions compliance, certification, or regulatory validation.
