Aircraft Development Engineer - Advanced Concepts
As an Aircraft Development Engineer on the Advanced Systems team, you will drive the cross-functional development workflow for new aircraft concepts. You will coordinate multidisciplinary trades, maintain integrated development artifacts, identify and retire technical risks, and assemble engineering evidence to support timely program decisions. You will need to understand the aircraft at an architecture level to support the effective design and optimization of next-generation electric aircraft. This position will be based onsite at our South Burlington, VT office location, our Raleigh, NC office. Remote candidates may be considered for a hybrid role, with monthly visits to South Burlington, VT for in person work.
How you will contribute to revolutionizing electric aviation:
Drive the integrated workflow for aircraft concept development and technical review
Coordinate aircraft-level trades across configuration, propulsion, systems, structures, manufacturing, operations, and test
Maintain trade packages, decision records, and technical-review materials
Track major assumptions, risks, interfaces, dependencies, and actions
Mature aircraft configurations and installation concepts
Identify cross-functional issues early and coordinate closure with responsible teams
Communicate progress, unresolved issues, trade outcomes, and recommended actions
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace, Mechanical, Systems, or Electrical Engineering, or a related field
5+ years of aircraft, aerospace, or complex product-development experience
Experience integrating multiple engineering disciplines on a hardware product
Working knowledge of aircraft configuration, systems, structures, propulsion integration, manufacturing, or test
Experience preparing and presenting trade studies, technical reviews, or decision-support materials
Ability to structure ambiguous technical work into clear actions, decisions, and artifacts
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Must be a US Person to be considered for the role
Above and Beyond Qualifications:
Experience supporting a new aircraft, prototype, demonstrator, or complex aerospace product
Experience with aircraft configuration, propulsion installation, or multidisciplinary trades
Experience in preliminary or detailed design, build, integration, ground test, or flight test
Familiarity with requirements, interface management, verification planning, or configuration control
Experience with external suppliers, technical partners, or government-funded aerospace programs
Familiarity with electric aircraft, advanced propulsion, energy systems, or emerging architectures
Experience using CAD, 3DX, MBSE, analysis, or program-management tools for integrated development
