The Role You'll Play

You’ll help build and evolve the frontend experiences that power Playlist, partnering closely with Product, Design, and QA to take ideas from concept to production in a way that’s reliable, performant, accessible, and grounded in real customer needs. You’ll also operate at the edge of what’s possible by leveraging AI (LLMs and agentic tooling) to accelerate delivery, improve quality, and push product capabilities forward.

Partner with Product and Design to deliver features from ideation through deployment, iterating based on feedback and outcomes

Build polished, accessible user interfaces with a strong focus on performance, responsiveness, and UX quality

Own frontend architecture decisions (component patterns, state management, data fetching, routing) to keep the codebase scalable and maintainable

Work deeply with modern design systems and UI tooling (e.g., Tailwind, component libraries, tokens) to ensure consistency and speed of delivery

Integrate with backend services and APIs (GraphQL/REST), collaborating on schemas, contracts, and end-to-end workflows

Promote engineering excellence by driving simplicity, strengthening operational health, and upholding quality through automated testing, code reviews, and monitoring/observability

Mentor teammates and raise the bar for engineering rigor and clarity, including best practices for responsible AI usage

What We're Looking For

8+ years building and operating modern web applications for large-scale products

Expert proficiency with JavaScript and TypeScript, including strong fundamentals in the language and ecosystem

Deep understanding of how the browser works (rendering pipeline, event loop, networking, caching, performance profiling)

Strong experience with modern React-based frameworks such as Next.js (SSR, routing, data fetching, performance tuning) and familiarity with Node.js

Experience building and consuming GraphQL APIs (schema-driven development, client caching, pagination patterns)

Expert-level debugging skills; comfortable using browser DevTools in and out (performance, memory, network, tracing)

Strong knowledge of modern frontend build, bundling, and packaging (Vite/Webpack, Babel/SWC, code-splitting, tree-shaking, npm/pnpm/yarn)

Solid engineering judgement and understanding of SDLC and Agile methodologies

AI-native builder mindset with strong judgment; understanding of AI tooling such as MCPs, evals, RAG are good to have

Strong communication and collaboration across functions

Tools and Systems

This role is primarily frontend-focused, with opportunities to collaborate across the broader product stack. You do not need to have used every tool here, but you should be comfortable learning new technologies and choosing the right approach for the problem.

Languages and Frameworks: JavaScript, TypeScript, ReactJS, Next.js, Tailwind, shadcn or similar

APIs & data: REST/GraphQL, client caching, state management

Runtime & tooling: Node.js, npm/pnpm/yarn, modern bundlers (Vite/Webpack), monorepos, CI/CD

Testing: unit/integration/e2e testing (e.g., Jest/Vitest, React Testing Library, Playwright/Cypress)

Observability: client-side monitoring, logging, and tools such as New Relic/DataDog/Sentry

AI tooling: Claude Code/ Cursor/ Codex-style coding assistants; MCPs; agent/orchestration frameworks; safety harnesses

Engineering Practices: automated testing, code reviews, CI/CD, observability, on-call, incident management — with AI-accelerated workflows where appropriate
