About the role

Coalition is looking for a Software Engineer to join the Business Applications team and help build, extend, and operate the systems that support how our business runs. This role is centered on Salesforce and CRM engineering, with a strong emphasis on clean software design, reliable integrations, and practical partnership with the teams that depend on these systems.

You will work across the full delivery lifecycle: understanding a business problem, shaping requirements, designing a solution, writing and reviewing code, testing, releasing, documenting, and supporting what you build in production. You will partner with stakeholders in Sales, Marketing, Customer Support, Claims and other business functions, while collaborating with engineers, administrators, product owners, and IT partners.

This role is for an engineer who can independently own project deliverables, make sound technical tradeoffs, work effectively across team boundaries, and help raise the quality and capability of the team around them.

Responsibilities

Design, build, test, release, and maintain scalable Salesforce and CRM solutions that improve business operations.

Translate business needs into clear technical requirements, implementation plans, and maintainable software.

Develop custom Salesforce capabilities and integrations using appropriate platform features, APIs, automation, and software engineering practices.

Partner with Salesforce administrators, engineers, product owners, and business stakeholders to define solutions that are secure, reliable, and easy to operate.

Build and maintain integrations between Salesforce and other business applications, services, and data sources.

Participate in architecture and solution reviews, explaining design choices, dependencies, risks, and tradeoffs to technical and non-technical audiences.

Own assigned projects from planning through delivery, balancing new capabilities with technical debt, maintenance, operational support, and quality.

Establish appropriate testing, monitoring, documentation, and release practices for the systems you own.

Investigate and resolve production issues, defects, data problems, and integration failures; identify root causes and follow through on durable fixes.

Collaborate with partner teams to manage requirements, dependencies, releases, incidents, and changes that affect shared systems.

Improve development workflows, tooling, and team practices by identifying opportunities to use automation and AI to improve engineering efficiency, testing, documentation, support, and business workflows.

Use AI-assisted development tools thoughtfully, applying sound judgment to validate outputs and protect the security, privacy, and maintainability of the systems you build.

Share knowledge through documentation, code reviews, technical discussions, and mentorship of peers and junior team members.

What Success Looks Like

Deliver meaningful Salesforce and CRM improvements with good velocity and a high standard of quality.

Independently clarify ambiguous requirements and turn them into pragmatic, well-designed solutions.

Build trust with business partners by communicating clearly, setting expectations, and following through on commitments.

Improve the reliability, maintainability, and observability of the applications and integrations you support.

Make tradeoffs that balance business value, delivery time, security, sustainability, and operational risk.

Contribute to a stronger engineering culture through thoughtful reviews, useful documentation, knowledge sharing, and mentorship.

Skills and Qualifications

3+ years of professional software engineering, business applications engineering, or comparable experience.

Strong experience building and supporting Salesforce or other CRM-based business applications.

Demonstrated coding experience with Salesforce development, application integrations, or comparable enterprise application platforms.

Experience with Salesforce development technologies such as Apex, Lightning Web Components, Flow, or platform event-based integrations.

Experience integrating Salesforce with systems such as Zendesk, Outreach, data platforms, or other business applications.

Experience with Salesforce Sales Cloud, Service Cloud, Financial Services Cloud, or CRM Analytics.

Experience working with APIs, webhooks, data models, authentication, and integration patterns.

Ability to design and implement maintainable solutions with minimal day-to-day supervision.

Experience with software development fundamentals, including version control, code review, testing, debugging, deployment, and documentation.

Ability to work effectively with both technical and non-technical partners, including gathering requirements and explaining technical concepts clearly.

Experience working in an Agile or similarly iterative delivery environment.

Strong judgment, ownership, and communication skills, including the ability to identify risks and escalate issues early.

Practical experience using AI tools to improve productivity in areas such as coding, debugging, documentation, analysis, testing, or workflow automation.

Ability to evaluate AI-generated outputs for accuracy, security, privacy, bias, and maintainability before incorporating them into business processes or production systems.

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Bonus Points

Experience designing data migration, synchronization, archiving, or data-quality solutions.

Experience with observability, incident response, and operational support for business-critical applications.

Experience using infrastructure, automation, AI-assisted development tools, or AI-enabled business applications to improve engineering productivity and operational outcomes.

Experience evaluating or implementing AI capabilities such as intelligent workflow automation, copilots, agents, or natural-language interfaces.
