MetTel is looking for a Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET) to join our QA Operations Testing team in our NYC office!

SDET is not a role where you follow a checklist — we want someone who thinks like an engineer first: someone who digs past symptoms to find root cause, identifies gaps, and builds tools to close them.

AI is changing how software is built and shipped. Development cycles are faster, release frequency is higher, and the complexity of what needs to be validated keeps growing. We need someone who is not just comfortable with that pace, but energized by it — someone who sees a problem and builds the fix before being asked.

ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Own quality across the entire SDLC — from requirements and design through development, release, and post-deployment — ensuring every stage meets the bar before moving forward

Drive continuous quality improvement by identifying gaps, raising the bar on standards, and making sure the right checks are in place at every phase

Design, build, and maintain automation frameworks and test suites across functional, API, performance, and regression layers

Investigate and find root cause of failures — then build the right solution, not just a workaround

Integrate AI tools into QA and release workflows to reduce manual effort, improve coverage, and accelerate delivery

Develop release strategies that manage risk in a fast-paced environment — knowing when to ship, when to hold, and using AI to inform that decision

Identify process inefficiencies and build scalable tools or automation to fix them, even outside your immediate scope

Collaborate across engineering, product, and DevOps, communicate risks clearly, and keep stakeholders informed

Write documentation and share knowledge so the whole team moves faster

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field

Demonstrated initiative and problem-solving mindset — point to something you built end-to-end that nobody assigned you

Proficiency in one or more programming languages: C#, Java, Python, or JavaScript/TypeScript

Solid foundation in web technologies and REST APIs

Basic SQL knowledge for data validation

Clear communicator — able to explain technical issues to both engineers and non-technical stakeholders

Collaborative team player with a drive to learn, adapt, and grow

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience with modern test automation frameworks such as Playwright, Selenium, or equivalent

Understanding of CI/CD pipelines: Jenkins, GitHub Actions, TeamCity, or Azure DevOps

Experience with or strong interest in AI-assisted testing tools (Copilot, Claude, or similar)

Experience with release management and quality ownership across the SDLC

Familiarity with observability tools such as Datadog, Splunk, or Grafana

Knowledge of application frameworks: .NET, React, Spring, or Angular

Experience with JIRA and test management tools such as Xray or Zephyr

Experience with OutSystems or similar low-code platforms is a plus
