Softare Engineer, Consumer Health (Health AI)
OpenAI’s Health AI team is working to ensure that advances in AI meaningfully improve health for everyone. We build AI systems that help people better understand and navigate their health while setting a high bar for safety, reliability, privacy, and user trust.
On the Consumer Health team, we’re building health experiences directly into ChatGPT. People can use ChatGPT to understand health information, prepare for appointments, make sense of changes over time, and have more informed conversations grounded in their own health context.
Our work sits at the intersection of consumer product engineering, AI, and healthcare. We work closely with product, design, research, safety, privacy, and other ChatGPT teams to build experiences used at global scale.
ABOUT THE ROLE
We are looking for product-minded software engineers to build the next generation of consumer health experiences in ChatGPT.
You will own products and features end-to-end, from early prototypes through polished experiences used by millions of people. We welcome specialists in mobile, frontend, or full-stack development; you can focus on the area where you have the most depth.
This role is ideal for engineers who care deeply about craft and user experience, move quickly from idea to product, and are excited about making complex health information understandable and useful. Prior healthcare or AI experience is not required.
IN THIS ROLE, YOU WILL:
- Design and build consumer health experiences across ChatGPT, including mobile, web, and full-stack product surfaces.
- Own features end-to-end, from early product exploration and prototyping through implementation, launch, measurement, and iteration.
- Build intuitive experiences for helping people understand and interact with complex personal health information.
- Work closely with product managers, designers, researchers, and safety experts to translate emerging AI capabilities into useful consumer products.
- Build experiences that let people connect their medical records, health apps, and connected devices, explore their health over time, and get useful answers grounded in their personal context.
- Develop reliable systems and interfaces for highly sensitive user data, with privacy and security built into the product experience.
- Improve product quality, performance, reliability, and usability at ChatGPT scale.
- Take ownership of ambiguous problems and drive them toward practical, high-quality solutions.
YOU MIGHT THRIVE IN THIS ROLE IF YOU:
- Are an exceptional product engineer who has shipped consumer-facing products and cares deeply about usability, performance, and craft.
- Have 5+ years of experience building and shipping production software.
- Have deep experience in at least one of mobile, frontend, or full-stack product development.
- Enjoy working closely with design and product partners and contributing to product direction, not just implementation.
- Can take ownership of ambiguous problems and move quickly from prototype to production while maintaining a high quality bar.
- Are excited about the opportunity to use AI to help people better understand and manage their health.
- Are thoughtful about the responsibilities that come with building products involving sensitive health information.
BONUS IF YOU HAVE:
- Experience building high-quality consumer products at significant scale.
- Experience building AI-powered or conversational products.
- Experience working with personal data, health data, wearables, or health platforms such as Apple Health.
- Experience building products where privacy, safety, and user trust are core product requirements.
- Previous experience in healthcare or health technology.
