Shipping & Receiving Supervisor
Position Summary
The Shipping & Receiving Supervisor is responsible for overseeing all inbound and outbound logistics operations within a defense aerospace manufacturing environment. This role ensures compliance with defense industry regulations, material traceability requirements, inventory accuracy, and on-time delivery of mission-critical components and assemblies. The supervisor leads warehouse personnel, coordinates with production and quality teams, and ensures adherence to AS9100, ITAR, DFARS, and government contracting requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Shipping Operations
Supervise daily shipment of defense aerospace components, assemblies, and classified or controlled materials
Ensure all outbound shipments comply with customer, military, and export control requirements
Review and approve packing lists, bills of lading, certifications, DD forms, and shipping documentation
Coordinate domestic and international shipments with approved carriers and freight providers
Maintain strict chain-of-custody and traceability requirements for defense-related products
Monitor on-time delivery performance and resolve shipping discrepancies
Receiving Operations
Oversee receipt, inspection, and verification of incoming aerospace materials, hardware, tooling, and special processing documentation
Validate material certifications, Certificates of Conformance (CoCs), and traceability documentation
Coordinate receiving inspections with Quality Assurance and Supply Chain teams
Segregate and process non-conforming or suspect materials according to company procedures
Ensure accurate ERP/MRP system transactions and inventory updates
Inventory & Materials Management
Maintain inventory accuracy through cycle counting, audits, and material reconciliation
Control lot traceability, serialized inventory, shelf-life materials, and controlled storage requirements
Support production schedules through accurate material staging and kitting operations
Implement FIFO and material handling procedures
Ensure warehouse organization and efficient material flow
Compliance & Regulatory Oversight
Ensure compliance with:
AS9100 quality management standards
ITAR/EAR export regulations
DFARS and government contract requirements
OSHA and environmental health & safety standards
Support internal, customer, and government audits
Maintain audit-ready documentation and record retention systems
Enforce security procedures for controlled defense materials and data
Leadership & Team Management
Supervise, train, and develop shipping and receiving personnel
Assign daily workloads and monitor department productivity
Conduct performance reviews and corrective actions as necessary
Promote continuous improvement, lean manufacturing, and 5S initiatives
Foster a culture of accountability, safety, and quality compliance
Required Qualifications
High school diploma or GED required; associate’s or bachelor’s degree preferred
5+ years of shipping, receiving, warehouse, or logistics experience in aerospace, defense, or regulated manufacturing
2+ years of supervisory or team leadership experience
Knowledge of defense aerospace quality and compliance requirements
Experience with ERP/MRP systems such as SAP, Oracle, Costpoint, or Epicor
Understanding of inventory control and material traceability practices
Forklift certification or ability to obtain certification
Preferred Qualifications
Experience supporting DoD, military, or government contracts
Familiarity with:
AS9100
ITAR/EAR
DFARS
NADCAP documentation requirements
Lean manufacturing or Six Sigma experience
Hazardous material shipping certification preferred
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Physical Requirements
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
Frequent standing, walking, bending, and material handling
Ability to operate forklifts, pallet jacks, and warehouse equipment
Work in warehouse and manufacturing environments with varying temperatures and noise levels
Pay range for this role
$66,000—$94,500 USD
