Role Overview

As a Senior Staff Software Engineer, you are a senior technical leader who shapes architectural direction and solves complex, ambiguous engineering challenges across multiple product and platform domains that support our growing enterprise customer base. Your scope extends beyond a single team or product area, while remaining focused on the Enterprise organization rather than establishing technical direction for Engineering company-wide. You combine deep technical expertise with strong business judgment to develop scalable, reliable, and maintainable systems that support HCP’s long-term growth and increasingly complex customer needs.

In this role, you partner with Engineering, Product, Design, and business leaders to translate strategic priorities into durable technical solutions and roadmaps. You lead through influence, provide hands-on technical direction for high-impact initiatives, and elevate engineering capability through mentorship, architectural guidance, and the introduction of effective tools and practices. You establish engineering standards, guide high-impact architectural decisions, and help teams navigate trade-offs between near-term delivery and long-term platform health.

You anticipate future technical needs and systemic risks as our platform supports increasingly sophisticated business requirements and scales from serving small and medium-sized businesses to larger Enterprise customers. You elevate engineering capability through mentorship, architectural guidance, and the thoughtful adoption of artificial intelligence, automation, and modern development practices.

What you do each day:

Define and drive long-term technical strategy and architectural direction across multiple Enterprise engineering domains

Design, prototype, and guide the implementation of highly complex, scalable, secure, and resilient software systems

Lead critical technical initiatives from discovery through delivery, aligning architecture and execution with measurable business outcomes

Partner with Engineering, Product, Design, and business leaders to translate company priorities into technical roadmaps and investment recommendations

Identify systemic architectural risks, performance constraints, and reliability concerns and develop durable solutions that improve platform health

Establish and evolve engineering standards, architectural patterns, development practices, and quality expectations across teams

Lead architecture and design reviews, helping teams evaluate trade-offs involving delivery speed, scalability, security, cost, and maintainability

Mentor and elevate senior engineers through technical coaching, knowledge sharing, and guidance on complex decisions

Establish approaches, guardrails, and best practices for AI-assisted software development and automation that improve engineering quality, productivity, and responsible adoption across teams

Influence technical culture across Engineering by modeling accountability, pragmatic decision-making, collaboration, and continuous improvement

Qualifications:

10+ years of professional software engineering experience, including significant experience leading architecture and technical direction for complex production systems

Deep technical expertise in modern software architecture, distributed systems, microservices, system design, data modeling, application programming interfaces, and cloud-native development

Extensive experience designing, building, coding, and operating high-throughput, scalable, secure, reliable, and fault-tolerant production applications

Strong experience with cloud platforms (i.e. AWS, GCP), modern databases, service-oriented architectures, containerization, observability, automated testing, continuous integration, and continuous delivery

Demonstrated success influencing technical strategy and aligning architectural direction across multiple engineering teams and stakeholders

Experience evaluating complex technical trade-offs involving system performance, reliability, security, cost, scalability, and long-term maintainability

Experience building or evolving B2B SaaS, vertical SaaS, or comparable platforms that support increasingly complex customer segments, including transitions from small and medium-sized business use cases toward Enterprise-scale requirements

Proven experience setting AI-assisted development strategy, practices, and guardrails across teams to improve engineering quality, developer efficiency, and responsible use of automation

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, a related field, or equivalent work experience
