Senior Product Design Engineer

Location: Battersea, London / Hybrid — 3 days in the office

We are looking for a Senior Product Design Engineer to join our UK AD team, building a new generation of innovative products for our Shark Floorcare range. We thrive on designing great products that delight our customers. Working as part of our London Design Office, you will bring technical substance and inspiration to our creative efforts to deliver credible solutions to the market.

What You'll Do

Take a lead role — independently and within teams — to solve technical challenges across the product development lifecycle

Mentor more junior team members, with the opportunity to move into line management if desired

Help establish user, design, and functional requirements for projects, then deliver robust solutions and validate through testing

Own designs end to end, from conception through CAD execution, prototyping, and verification, consistently working at pace and developing the team to do the same

Continuously evaluate and improve designs for cost efficiency, manufacturing performance, quality, and consumer value

Apply sound engineering and product design standards to deliver real, manufacturable solutions

Leverage deep knowledge of high-volume manufacturing processes and materials to optimise designs

Collaborate seamlessly with Product Development teams across the US, UK, and China, as well as cross-functional and executive stakeholders

What You'll Bring

5+ years of proven experience in a mechanical or electro-mechanical engineering environment

Strong understanding of mechanical systems in high-voltage environments, including material selection, heat dissipation, vibration control, and structural integrity

Working knowledge of electromechanical systems — how mechanical components interact with electrical systems, including insulating materials, creepage and clearance distances, and thermal management

Proficiency in SolidWorks (preferred) or Creo

Extensive injection moulding experience and understanding of materials suited to high-voltage applications, including PPS and PAGF

Expertise in managing electrical safety risks — dielectric, hi-pot, arcing, and related considerations

Experience with FMEA, DFMEA, and HAZOP for risk assessment in high-voltage systems

Understanding of IP ratings, dielectric strength testing, thermal runaway testing, and partial discharge testing

Ability to design, build, and test mechanical prototypes in controlled environments

Familiarity with thermal cycling, humidity, vibration, and impact testing for product reliability

Proficiency in 2D drawings and assemblies, BOM management, and working GD&T knowledge
