Senior GL & Payroll Accountant
Position Overview
The Senior Compensation Accountant will perform all payroll and equity compensation responsibilities and performs finance and accounting related activities. The position has impact on the company’s cash flow and financial statements. Accuracy and quality are important competencies for the role.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Payroll & Equity
Performs bi-weekly payroll processing and reconciliation; assists Payroll Manager with payroll related administration (i.e. FSA, HSA, 401k, commuter benefits, PTO accrual reconciliation, timecard management, etc.)
Identity and resolves multi-state payroll tax filing/registration matters.
Administers Workers’ Compensation program through ADP and support the Payroll Manager with the Workers’ Compensation annual audit.
Be a resource to employees with payroll related topics and issues.
Make recommendations on policies and procedures to comply with new statutory requirements and improving procedures.
Ensures all statutory payroll withholding, remittance, and reporting is performed accurately and timely in compliance with applicable rules.
Design and creates ADP reports in partnership with Accounting and People Operations.
Prepares all payroll-related journal entries including month-end payroll accrual.
Responsible for ADP system maintenance of Payroll tables, ADP systems requirements to comply with changing and new regulations in state and federal laws.
Administers equity compensation programs (stock options, RSUs, ESPP, etc.) in coordination with the equity management platform; ensures timely and accurate processing of equity grants, vesting events, and exercises.
Calculates and records stock-based compensation expense in accordance with ASC 718; maintains supporting schedules and documentation for internal and external audit purposes.
Manages equity-related tax withholding obligations, including income and FICA tax on equity vesting and exercises, and coordinates with payroll to ensure accurate reporting on employee W-2s.
General Accounting
Performs month-end activity including reviewing and entering all payroll and equity-related journal entries, preparing ad-hoc analysis, and maintaining and auditing the month-end close journal entry log to QAD postings.
Responsible for the correction and reclassification of payroll and equity-related accounting entries.
Responsible for the accuracy and reconciliation of all payroll and equity-related balance sheet accounts, including accrued compensation, accrued bonuses, equity liability accounts, and additional paid-in capital.
Requirements and Qualifications
BA degree required – Concentration in Economics or Accounting/Finance preferred.
Minimum 3 years in Payroll, Equity Compensation, Benefits, and General Accounting experience.
Must have strong analytical skills.
Excellent skills in using MS Office Suite software: Excel, Words, etc.
Experience in ERP (QAD) is required. Proficient in using third party payroll software (ADP, Paychex, etc.) and equity administration platforms (Carta, E*TRADE, etc.).
Strong and effective verbal and written communication skills.
