Senior Design Technologist II - Design Systems
About the Team
HubSpot’s Design Systems team builds the foundations for a world-class user experience. Supporting more than 2,400 product managers, designers, and engineers, our system includes coded components, robust documentation, and a flexible contribution model that helps teams build more consistent, customer-centered products at scale.
We’re a multidisciplinary team focused on evolving HubSpot’s design system so it can better support the complexity of our product and the needs of the teams building it. As design systems continue to be reshaped by AI, new interaction patterns, and changing product expectations, we’re investing in the next generation of how design and engineering work together.
About the Role
HubSpot is looking for a Senior Design Technologist to help evolve our design system through strong technical craft, systems thinking, and close partnership with design and engineering peers.
This role is ideal for someone who loves translating design intent into scalable implementation, building high-fidelity prototypes, and improving the tools, components, and workflows that help teams create cohesive product experiences. You’ll work on large, complex initiatives with meaningful autonomy, contribute to the evolution of our system architecture and patterns, and help ensure our design language continues to scale across product areas.
Success in this role looks like independently driving high-impact work within a focused area of the design system, collaborating across multiple teams, and helping shape system strategy through execution, insight, and technical point of view.
In This Role, You’ll
Build high-fidelity prototypes, interaction models, and front-end explorations that bring design concepts to life and help teams evaluate tradeoffs early.
Create and evolve reusable components, patterns, and implementation approaches that improve consistency across product experiences.
Partner closely with designers and engineers to translate design intent into scalable, accessible, and maintainable system solutions.
Contribute to the technical evolution of the design system, including component APIs, implementation patterns, and design-to-code workflows.
Build or improve tools, automations, plugins, or documentation that make the design system easier to adopt and use well.
Help identify gaps, inconsistencies, and opportunities across product surfaces, and turn them into reusable system improvements.
Apply strong judgment to balance flexibility and standardization in ways that support real product needs.
Use modern prototyping and front-end technologies to explore motion, interaction, and emerging UI patterns where they add meaningful customer value.
Ensure system work accounts for accessibility, localization, responsiveness, performance, and inclusive design principles.
Share knowledge with teammates and partners through documentation, demos, design reviews, and day-to-day collaboration.
Guide peers on system usage and implementation best practices within your project areas.
We’re Looking For
Significant experience in design technology, UX engineering, front-end development, design systems, or a closely related field.
Strong proficiency in HTML, CSS, and modern JavaScript.
Experience with React and contemporary front-end tooling.
Demonstrated ability to build sophisticated prototypes, interactive UI, or production-quality front-end components.
Experience contributing to or evolving a design system, component library, or shared UI framework.
Strong understanding of how design language, interaction design, and front-end implementation intersect.
Ability to independently own large, complex projects while collaborating effectively across multiple teams.
Experience identifying workflow inefficiencies and building pragmatic tools or automation to improve them.
Fluency in accessibility standards and inclusive design practices.
Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain technical tradeoffs clearly to designers, engineers, and cross-functional partners.
Curiosity about emerging technologies and how they can improve design system workflows, prototyping, and product quality.
Bonus Experience
Experience with design tokens, theming, or design-to-code synchronization workflows.
Experience with motion systems, advanced interactions, or animation in product UI.
Familiarity with AI-assisted tooling, AI interaction patterns, or building systems that support AI-augmented product experiences.
Experience creating internal tools, plugins, or automations for designers and engineers.
Why This Role Matters
This role helps ensure HubSpot’s design system keeps pace with the scale and complexity of our product. You’ll contribute to the components, tooling, and interaction patterns that teams rely on every day, while helping us raise the quality, cohesion, and efficiency of how we build.
You won’t be expected to define the entire future of the system on your own. Instead, you’ll be a key senior contributor: someone who can take on meaningful system challenges independently, influence direction through strong execution and technical judgment, and make the work around you better.
