Software Engineer (Backend)

This covers a Mid-Senior Engineer position supporting the various Integration products.

Position: Software Engineer (Full-Stack — Node.js / AWS)

Reports to: Engineering Manager / Engineering Team Lead

Position Summary:  We are looking for skilled Mid-Senior Software Engineers to join our Engineering team supporting various Integration initiatives like Digital Payments (Node.js/AWS serverless stack), Data Integration (a SQL Server-backed backend service) and Building APIs. You will work across all three codebases — this is not a single-stack role — moving between a SQL Server-backed backend service and event-driven AWS Lambda microservices provisioned via Terraform, depending on sprint priorities. You will take ownership of engineering quality, architecture, and delivery across these systems, collaborating closely with SDETs and Product to ensure reliable, well-tested releases.

Essential Functions

Design, build, and maintain features across our Data Integration and payments/API systems.

Build and connect secure APIs, keeping employee-facing and public-facing access clearly separated.

Use AI coding tools (Claude, GitHub Copilot) to accelerate development, testing, and documentation.

Write clean, well-tested code and maintain high quality through code review.

Optimize application performance, responsiveness, and reliability.

Debug and resolve issues, including production incidents.

Participate in Agile ceremonies and collaborate with QA to ensure thorough testing before release.

Participate in on-call rotation and plan for deployments outside standard business hours.

Skills and Abilities Required

Must-Haves:

Proficiency in JavaScript/Node.js and building serverless applications on AWS (Lambda, API Gateway, SQS, EventBridge etc.).

Experience with RDS/PostgreSQL or similar relational databases

Proficiency in T-SQL / SQL Server.

Hands-on experience with Terraform for infrastructure as code.

Experience with CI/CD pipelines (Azure Pipelines or equivalent).

Experience building and consuming REST APIs.

Understanding of event-driven and microservices architecture.

Nice-to-Haves:

Experience with SCIM 2.0 or identity/access management systems.

Experience with Dynatrace or similar APM/observability tooling.

Experience with DACPAC-based SQL Server deployment workflows.

AWS certification (e.g., Solutions Architect Associate).

Experience in payments, fintech, or restaurant/retail technology domains.

Education

Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent practical experience.

Experience

4–8 years of professional software engineering experience.

Experience delivering production software across multiple, architecturally distinct systems preferred.

Experience working in Agile or team-based development environments preferred.

Accountability / Scope

People Management: No.

Scope: Individual contributor responsible for delivering assigned software components/features across multiple project/products

Decision Making: Makes implementation decisions within defined designs, standards, and guidance.

Work Schedule: Requires participation in an on-call rotation and availability for off-hours deployments and incident response.
