Principal Product Manager, Experimentation Platform
The Team:
Help Upstart become the world’s most radically pro-consumer company in finance! Upstart’s Experimentation Platform team is building shared foundations that make experimentation easier, more reliable, and more valuable across the company. The team partners closely with Machine Learning, Analytics, product, and engineering teams to bring greater coherence to Upstart’s experimentation capabilities, improve experimentation rigor, and enable teams to learn and innovate faster.
As the Principal Product Manager, Experimentation Platform, you will co-lead this emerging platform area with cross-functional partners, shaping both its long-term strategy and the capabilities teams rely on today. You’ll help unify experimentation across teams, expand model deployment and experimentation capabilities, and establish practices that enable Upstart to scale experimentation with greater confidence.
How you’ll make an impact
Define and drive the strategy and roadmap for Upstart’s experimentation platform, balancing immediate business needs with a scalable, long-term platform vision supportive of agentic products.
Collaborate with Machine Learning, Analytics, and Engineering to build shared experimentation capabilities, including approaches for randomized experiments, model deployments, feature flags, and other emerging patterns.
Create common abstractions and guardrails that reduce fragmentation, improve experimentation quality, and make it easier for product and engineering teams to test and learn.
Establish a center of excellence for experimentation by defining standards, improving functional rigor, and enabling teams across Upstart to adopt effective experimentation practices.
Partner with stakeholder teams across Growth, Servicing, Capital, and Upstart’s broader organization to understand needs, prioritize opportunities, and drive adoption of shared capabilities.
Guide Upstart’s approach to experimentation technology and vendor partnerships, evaluating where external solutions and internally developed capabilities best support the platform strategy.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience) and 7+ years of product management experience.
Experience owning strategy and roadmaps for technically complex software, platform, infrastructure, data, or developer-facing products.
Experience partnering with engineering, data science, Machine Learning, or Analytics teams on technical product architecture, tradeoffs, and delivery.
Experience applying quantitative methods, including statistics, experimentation, analytics, or data science, to product development and decision-making.
Experience developing platforms that support Machine Learning or AI workflows, including deployment, measurement, or experimentation.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience building or leading an experimentation platform product, either within a consumer technology company or at an experimentation technology provider.
Knowledge of experimentation methodologies, including randomized experiments, feature flags, model experimentation, metric design, and statistical evaluation.
Ability to develop platform strategies that connect shared technical capabilities to broader company and product priorities.
Ability to communicate complex technical and quantitative concepts to audiences ranging from engineers and data scientists to senior leaders.
Ability to build alignment across multiple product and technical teams and establish shared practices in a distributed organization.
Position location This role is available in the following locations: Remote
Time zone requirements The team operates on the East/West coast time zones.
Travel requirements As a digital first company, the majority of your work can be accomplished remotely. The majority of our employees can live and work anywhere in the U.S but are encouraged to to still spend high quality time in-person collaborating via regular onsites. The in-person sessions’ cadence varies depending on the team and role; most teams meet once or twice per quarter for 2-4 consecutive days at a time.

At Upstart, your base pay is one part of your total compensation package. The anticipated base salary for this position is expected to be within the below range. Your actual base pay will depend on your geographic location–with our “digital first” philosophy, Upstart uses compensation regions that vary depending on location. Individual pay is also determined by job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Your recruiter can share more about the specific salary range for your preferred location during the hiring process.
