Title of role: Planner – Merchandising
Location: New York or Boston; Hybrid (2 days in the office required)
Approved Salary Range: $75,000- $90,000
About the Role:
As a Planner – Merchandise Planning you will lead the development and execution of the merchandising and planning strategies for several merchandise categories to drive top line sales and bottom-line profitability. You will support a planning analyst and will work closely with the Associate Planner as well as cross-functional partners, leveraging data analysis and knowledge of retail trends to ensure category visions are executed.
Key Responsibilities:
Strategic Thinking
Develop and support the execution of the overall merchandise strategy for multiple categories in partnership with the merchandising team that aligns with company’s business goals.
Provide strategic direction to inform a financial plan for multiple categories and lead in-season OTB discussion in partnership with the financial planner.
Establish strategic initiatives to build assortment strategies that support financial targets across multiple departments.
Financial Agility
Evaluate the financial performance of multiple merchandise categories against established KPI’s to support merchandise strategies.
Conduct advanced data analysis to identify trends and new business opportunity recommendations to the Merchandise Planning and Buying Team, contributing to effective decision-making and the overall success of the merchandise planning strategies.
Oversee management of select merchandise category plans, budgets and forecasts that support profitable sales growth.
Results Driven
Accountable for team decisions and subsequent business impact.
Organize and prioritize workload to ensure timeliness and accuracy.
Recommend and implement process improvements and identify opportunities for enhanced tools to drive planning efficiency and accuracy.

Foster a collaborative and high-performance culture within the planning team.
Actively participate in self-development
Manage and develop Planning Analysts’ ability to identify strategies supported by sound financial plan.
Build trust and influence with cross functional partners through strong data-driven insights.
Support company initiatives
Communication
Build and foster effective relationships and collaborate closely with Merchandising, Financial Planning, Programing and other cross-functional teams to ensure alignment of Merchandising strategies to support overall business objectives.
Possess solid presentation skills and ability to build sound business cases.
Experience and Background Needed:
You are a strategic, data-minded retail professional who thrives in the fast-paced world of e-commerce and multi-brand commerce. Driven by curiosity and commercial acumen, you naturally translate complex sales data and market trends into profitable category strategies and actionable financial plans. Collaboration is at your core—you excel at building trust across cross-functional teams, framing compelling business cases, and mentoring up-and-coming planning talent. Above all, you bring a balance of big-picture vision and operational rigor to help elevate our brand and hit key performance goals.
Education
Bachelor’s degree in business or another quantitative field preferred
Years of experience
3+ years of experience in merchandise planning, retail buying, or a related role.
Technical skills
Demonstrated planning and analytical skills, proficiency in Excel, Business Intelligence.
E-commerce, Off Price and Multi brand retail experience preferred.
Ability to thrive in a dynamic and fast paced working environment.
Deep knowledge of retail industry trends, consumer behavior, and market dynamics.
