Material Coordinator II
Purpose
The Material Coordinator serves as the material-flow interface between Development, Supply Chain, and Warehouse Operations, ensuring materials and consumables required for development, assembly, and system integration are available when and where needed.
The Development organization builds large-format laser powder-bed fusion (LPBF) sub-assemblies, complete printer systems, and ancillary modules that form adaptive production systems. The environment is fast-paced and dynamic, with changing material requirements, hardware configurations, build priorities, and delivery needs.
This role works directly with development teams to understand requirements and with Supply Chain and Warehouse teams to establish and continuously improve receiving, staging, delivery, replenishment, and shortage-management processes. The role is focused on coordinating and improving material flow rather than performing traditional warehouse picking or kitting.
This position may be filled at the Specialist II, III, or IV level based on demonstrated knowledge, experience, independence, complexity of work, and scope of responsibility.
The Role
Development Material Coordination
Serve as the material-flow interface between Development, Supply Chain, and Warehouse Operations.
Understand build plans, material requirements, priorities, and changing configurations.
Translate development needs into receiving, staging, delivery, and replenishment requirements.
Support large-format LPBF sub-assemblies, complete printer systems, and ancillary adaptive production modules.
Receiving, Staging & Delivery
Receive incoming development materials and verify part numbers, quantities, revisions, and documentation.
Organize and stage materials based on build priority, intended use, configuration, and delivery requirements.
Maintain material identification, traceability, and visibility from receipt through delivery.
Partner with Warehouse Operations to establish delivery schedules, staging locations, replenishment methods, and clear ownership.
Develop appropriate handling and storage practices for sensitive, high-value, or delicate components.
Consumables & Replenishment
Track consumable material usage and establish replenishment methods for build and integration teams.
Monitor consumable levels, usage trends, and recurring needs to prevent shortages and work interruptions.
Continuously improve delivery and replenishment methods based on team feedback and changing requirements.
Shortage Management
Identify, document, and track material shortages and potential impacts to development schedules.
Coordinate with Supply Chain and Warehouse to resolve shortages and escalate critical constraints.
Identify recurring shortages and material-flow issues and work cross-functionally to address root causes.
Process Improvement
Observe development and integration activities to identify material-flow and build-support improvements.
Develop and iterate processes for receiving, staging, delivery, replenishment, and shortage management.
Use data and team feedback to identify bottlenecks and improve material availability and delivery reliability.
Develop scalable material-flow processes that can evolve from development into production.
Systems & Collaboration
Maintain accurate material status and location information within applicable ERP/MRP/WMS systems.
Maintain traceability of part numbers, revisions, serial numbers, and lot information where applicable.
Participate in build planning and material-readiness activities with Engineering, Production, Supply Chain, Warehouse, and Quality.
Provide timely visibility of material status, requirements, and constraints across functional teams.
Basic Qualifications
Ability to lawfully access information and technology that is subject to US export controls
Experience in manufacturing, development, production, warehouse, supply chain, or material management.
Experience working directly with engineering or production teams in a fast-paced environment.
Understanding of material flow, inventory, receiving, staging, and production-support processes.
Strong organizational, prioritization, problem-solving, and communication skills.
Ability to develop and improve processes where established procedures may not yet exist.
Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Teams, Outlook, and Word.
Experience with ERP, MRP, WMS, or similar material-management systems.
Strong attention to detail and commitment to material accuracy and traceability.
Ability to work independently while coordinating across multiple functional organizations.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience supporting prototype, development, NPI, or production-intent manufacturing.
Experience in additive manufacturing, aerospace, automotive, robotics, or other advanced manufacturing environments.
Familiarity with large-format laser powder-bed fusion or industrial additive manufacturing.
Experience developing material-flow, staging, replenishment, or delivery systems.
Experience working between engineering/development and warehouse or supply-chain organizations.
Experience with Oracle, NetSuite, SAP, or comparable ERP/WMS platforms.
Familiarity with MES and production execution systems.
Experience with JIRA, Confluence, configuration management, engineering changes, serialized hardware, or revision-controlled components.
Experience using data to identify bottlenecks, shortages, and process-improvement opportunities.
Lean manufacturing, Six Sigma, or other continuous-improvement experience.
Work Environment
Fully onsite role supporting active development and system-integration activities.
Frequent interaction with development teams in active build and integration areas and with Warehouse and Supply Chain personnel.
Requires movement between development, receiving, warehouse, staging, and integration areas throughout the workday.
Fast-paced environment with frequently changing material requirements, priorities, and hardware configurations.
Ability to stand, walk, bend, reach, and work around large mechanical and electromechanical systems for extended periods.
Ability to lift up to 25 lbs independently; appropriate equipment or assistance will be used for heavier materials and assemblies.
Occasional extended-hour or weekend support may be required for critical development and integration milestones.
