Role: Managing Contract Engineer

Location: Reading, RG2 0QX

Hours: 45 hours per week | 9 hours per day between 06:00 and 18:00 Monday to Friday

Salary: up to £59,727.14 pa DOE

We're looking for a Managing Contract Engineer to take ownership of a key customer contract in Reading, leading a small team and ensuring exceptional service delivery across vehicle maintenance, repairs and compliance activities. This is an ideal opportunity for an experienced commercial vehicle professional who enjoys combining technical expertise with people leadership, customer relationships and operational management.

What you'll be doing

As Managing Contract Engineer, you'll be responsible for the day-to-day management of the Reading contract, ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently and to the highest standards.You'll:

Lead and support a Contract Engineer, creating a positive and productive working environment.

Oversee vehicle servicing, maintenance, repairs and MOT preparation.

Ensure contractual service work and compliance documentation are completed on time.

Maintain excellent relationships with customers, providing a professional and responsive service.

Manage workshop operations, stock control and housekeeping standards.

Ensure health, safety, quality and environmental requirements are consistently met.

Monitor workload and performance to ensure vehicles are maintained to plan and customers remain satisfied.

What we're looking for

We're interested in people who can combine strong technical knowledge with excellent leadership and communication skills.You'll ideally have:

Experience working with commercial vehicles, their maintenance and repair.

A good understanding of compliance requirements and health & safety standards.

Strong customer service and relationship-building skills.

Experience leading, motivating and developing others.

Good administration and organisational skills.

The ability to remain calm under pressure and provide clear direction when needed.

A full driving licence and HGV licence.

Previous experience managing a vehicle workshop, stock control knowledge, estimating experience or management qualifications would be advantageous.
