Overview
We're looking for a highly efficient, detail-driven Manager of Package Development & Engineering who thrives in a fast-paced, creative, startup environment. This role offers significant room to grow, reporting directly to the Senior Manager of Package Development & Engineering. Our ideal candidate has a strong drive to deliver excellence and brings genuine enthusiasm to everything they do.
What You’ll Do
As the Manager, Package Development & Engineering, you will be responsible for overseeing and supporting all aspects of new technical packaging development and existing line maintenance.
Your duties will include:
Packaging Maintenance & Documentation
Manage all packaging revisions for existing SKUs.
Update component specifications (primary, secondary, and tertiary) and Bill of Materials (BOM) to align with business requirements.
Maintain the Packaging Technical System, including updating technical drawings, packaging specifications, fill capacities, min/max torque specifications, and filling process tolerances.
Generate new Bills of Materials and manage internal BOM revision requests.
Distribute physical packaging standards to cross-functional departments.
Package Testing
Manage the status of all package testing for new and existing programs.
Track and evaluate results for component testing, including form, fit, function, and decoration integrity, against established criteria.
Ensure timely status and completion of all relevant tests for new product launches, such as compatibility, dispensing, decoration adhesion, and transit testing.
Collaborate with the packaging team to evaluate all test results and authorize final packaging release.
Support the resolution of packaging quality issues by troubleshooting component discrepancies with Quality, Supply Chain, and Suppliers, recommending timely and cost-effective solutions.
Supplier & Internal Communication
Maintain and update the package development tracker on a weekly basis.
Assist the team in preparing meeting agendas and documenting notes for supplier meetings.
Act as a key support contact for packaging suppliers, obtaining essential information such as capabilities, pricing, lead times, specifications, and samples.
Innovation & Project Management
Provide support for the management of complex projects, ensuring innovative packaging solutions are delivered within established timelines.
Research and identify new sustainable packaging technologies that can enhance the product's perceived value, performance, quality, cost-efficiency, and profitability.
What We Are Looking For
Bachelor’s degree in Packaging Technology/Science, Engineering, or a related field
Minimum of 4-5 years in packaging engineering within the cosmetics or personal care industry.
Proficiency with packaging design software (e.g. 3D CAD), material science, sustainability practices, and general statistical software. Familiarity with packaging lab equipment and testing protocols.
Strong analytical abilities, excellent communication skills, and a proactive approach to problem-solving. Ability to manage multiple projects and collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
