Lead Accountant (EMEA)
About the role (What you'll be doing)
We are entering an exciting phase of critical expansion across our EMEA region and are seeking a Lead Accountant to help build our EMEA Accounting function from the ground up. You'll be the most senior accountant in the Philippines, working directly alongside our UK-based finance lead and the broader global team. This is a foundational, high-impact hire that will play a key role in the future of our global accounting operations.
You'll work EMEA hours with APAC overlap (roughly 4 hours each side) to bridge time zones and ensure team presence across regions.
If you are someone energized by rolling up your sleeves, building from scratch, navigating ambiguity, and an environment of high ownership, this role is for you.
What you'll do
Own hands-on accounting responsibilities across reconciliations, journal entries, and bookings for EMEA entities
Support the accounting setup and ongoing operations for new market launches
Bridge time zones between the APAC and EMEA teams, ensuring continuity and presence across both regions
Provide informal mentorship and knowledge-sharing to the Philippines-based accounting team
Build processes where none currently exist, and improve existing ones as the business scales
Collaborate closely with the Senior Managers for Accounting and Financial Control in Australia and the UK, and the broader GL team
What good looks like in this role
The EMEA accounting function is stood up and running within the first six months, ready to support new market launches
New market launches are supported without the existing team going into firefighting mode
The Philippines team has a senior point of contact they can go to with questions, and knowledge transfer is happening naturally
You are navigating high volume and ambiguity without needing hand-holding, and flagging issues proactively
Senior finance leadership trust that the numbers are in good hands across the EMEA region
About you (Who you are)
You have 8+ years of accounting experience, with clear progression into roles of increasing complexity
You are CPA or CA qualified
You have hands-on experience with reconciliations, general ledger management, and bookings; not just oversight
You have international or offshore accounting experience, ideally in a global shared services environment
You have exposure to EMEA accounting experience
You have worked in or alongside an international shared services centre
You are comfortable with EMEA hours and have ideally done something similar before
You have a builder's mindset and are energized, not unsettled, by ambiguity
You can informally lead and mentor without needing a formal management mandate
Big Four experience is welcome, though it is not a substitute for in-house, end-to-end accounting ownership
