Federal Deployment Engineer

Location: Washington DC / Maryland / Virginia preferred (EST timezone considered) · Travel: 20–30% · Clearance: Active Secret minimum (required)

U.S. citizenship is required.

Minimum requirement is an active U.S. Government Secret clearance. An active Top Secret clearance is strongly preferred and may be required for specific agency engagements.

Clearance must be current and active at the time of application — lapsed clearances, clearance eligibility, and willingness to be sponsored do not meet this requirement.

You must be able to maintain your clearance for the duration of employment.

Who We're Looking For

We're looking for a Federal Deployment Engineer who's equally comfortable leading a customer meeting and working in a codebase. You'll own the initial implementation of BigID for our Federal customers — running deployment meetings with stakeholders, and problem-solving the technical issues that come up along the way. Because government environments often carry their own requirements, you'll bring a development background and the confidence to modify our existing codebase to meet them, plus build product integrations using REST APIs. Your work doesn't stop at go-live: you'll remain the trusted technical partner for these customers as their needs evolve.

What You'll Do

Automate deployment and configuration of BigID in restricted and air-gapped networks using Docker, Kubernetes, Helm, and infrastructure-as-code.

Build and ship custom integrations, connectors, and automation against BigID's REST APIs to meet agency-specific data sources, mission workflows, and system-of-record requirements.

Debug at the source: read logs, trace services, reproduce issues, and either patch them or hand R&D a clean, reproducible bug report.

Apply Agile/DevOps/CI/CD practices, test automation, and team leadership across multiple workstreams.

Use Jenkins, Groovy scripting, and Bash/shell for build and deployment automation.

Work across Jira, Confluence, Git, AWS, Docker, and relational/non-relational databases.

Document technical work clearly and communicate effectively across engineering, customer, and agency stakeholder groups.

What You'll Bring

An active U.S. Government Secret clearance or higher, held at time of application (see Clearance & Eligibility above).

Minimum 5 years combined experience across pre-sales engineering and hands-on software development — you can point to both code you've shipped and deals you've won.

Prior experience working with or within U.S. Federal agencies or defense-related organizations.

Strong hands-on development skills in Python, plus at least one of Java, Node.js/TypeScript, or Go; fluency with Bash and REST API design and consumption.

Production experience with Linux, Docker, and Kubernetes.

Familiarity with federal compliance frameworks: FedRAMP, NIST 800-53, FISMA, ITAR, and CMMC.

Broad understanding of enterprise data architecture, privacy, and security technologies.

Experience with one or more of: RDBMS systems; NoSQL data stores (MongoDB, Cassandra, DynamoDB); Hadoop technologies (HDFS, Hive, HBase); or cloud technologies (AWS GovCloud, EMR, S3, DynamoDB, Redshift, Azure Government, Azure file and blob storage).

Comfort troubleshooting and building in air-gapped or restricted networks without vendor support tooling.

Ability to plan, execute, and close out a proof of value with minimal assistance and oversight.

Ability to explain complex technical concepts to diverse audiences — executives, business stakeholders, and technology practitioners.

Composure and executive presence under scrutiny — able to stay credible and calm when challenged live by agency security architects or senior stakeholders, defending technical claims with evidence rather than deflection.

Self-directed with high ownership — thrives with minimal oversight across long federal sales cycles, sets priorities across concurrent agency engagements, and follows through without being chased.

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related discipline.

Ability to exercise independent judgment with little or no oversight.

Nice to Have

Federal procurement fluency — working knowledge of contract vehicles and buying paths (GSA MAS, SEWP, GWACs, OTAs), and experience partnering with system integrators, resellers, and channel teams.

Experience building on or securing AI systems: LLM applications, RAG pipelines, agentic workflows, or model training data governance.

Prior experience with Identity and Access Management or Data Loss Prevention tools.

Open-source contributions or a public portfolio of shipped work.

Master's degree in Computer Science or a related discipline.

Compensation

The base salary range for this position is $160,000–$190,000, depending on experience, qualifications, and location, plus a 30% variable/commission component. Actual compensation is determined by job-related skills, relevant experience, clearance level, and internal equity. This range reflects our good-faith estimate at time of posting.
