Electromechanical Technician Lead
Electromechanical Technician Lead
Wilmington, MA and Woburn, MA STR is focused on delivering national defense capabilities by driving mission-focused strategies to develop advanced technology systems that enable enduring products and solutions focused on achieving the customer vision. Our programs deliver sustainable, reliable, and cost-efficient capabilities focused on end-customer needs that function in operationally relevant environments and timeframes. We offer a dynamic and challenging environment where your work directly contributes to national security.
We are seeking an Electromechanical Technician Lead to support the design, development, testing, and implementation of high-visibility programs across STR. This position will be located in Wilmington, MA for the first year, then move to STR’s Woburn, MA office. As an experienced technician, you will assemble, test, and maintain electrical and electromechanical systems. You will provide feedback to design teams to help improve the assembly and maintenance of the systems as well as aid in troubleshooting and addressing issues. To succeed, you should be able to follow written documentation, read mechanical drawings and electrical schematics, and recommend improvements as an integral part of the design team. As the lead, you will coordinate the daily work of other technicians at the site — communicating duties clearly, checking quality of work, and providing input on performance. This is a working technical lead role, not a supervisory position with direct reports.
If you are driven by a passion for making an impact, excel in a collaborative environment, and are dedicated to the pursuit of excellence, we invite you to apply to join our team.

Assemble complex electrical and electromechanical components and systems that will be used in operational environments (e.g., electronic chassis and racks, mechanical assemblies).
Fabricate and assemble hardware: wire harnesses; coaxial cable (installation, routing, and restraining); connectors (with wires, strain relief, isolation, and potting); and fastener torquing, staking, and general assembly
Apply familiarity and experience (e.g., certification) with electronics industry assembly standards such as IPC (Aerospace and Defense applicable standards preferred)
Support test activities under guidance from Engineering teams, or conduct routine tests independently using test equipment (oscilloscopes, network analyzers, function generators, etc.)
Read, create, revise, and recommend changes to technical documentation; accurately document work activities to maintain design and manufacturing history; and identify improvements for performance and manufacturability
Work and communicate with Engineering staff to understand design intent, communicate issues and recommendations
Coordinate day-to-day activities in the assembly bay and work with leadership to maintain and improve lab operations, keeping the environment clean, organized, safe, and fully equipped
Manage inventory of system parts, materials, electrical supplies, and equipment — ordering, receiving, stocking, and tracking status; coordinating maintenance, calibration, and repair; and scheduling use
Prepare space for program use — benches, storage, power, network, and ESD mitigation — and handle closeout (pack/return equipment; clean the space)
Demonstrate proper equipment use while also ensuring equipment is properly used by others (e.g., verify function, conduct training or direct users to appropriate training)
Adhere to standard operating procedures and safety and security protocols, assist in monitoring for adherence, and provide feedback for their development, implementation, and refinement
Coordinate with EHS staff to ensure proper storage and disposal of chemicals and waste in accordance with appropriate regulations

Associate’s degree in a relevant technical field (electrical, mechanical, etc.) or equivalent experience
Minimum of 6 years of demonstrated experience assembling, maintaining, testing, and repairing prototype or production systems
Experience building, testing, and delivering Electromechanical hardware related to RF, Radar, antenna, acoustic, and undersea products
Read, interpret, and refine work instructions, assembly drawings, and documentation
Excellent independent problem-solving skills
Familiarity with tools and parts used in assembly of Electromechanical hardware, including solder, soldering irons, and crimp tools; drill press, saws, and related power tools; bolts, nuts, washers, and related mechanical hardware; and connectors, wire preparation, and epoxies
