About the team/role

Checkr is hiring a Director of Procurement to own our procurement function end to end. Reporting to the Controller, this role sets the strategy, goals and operating model for how Checkr buys, and partners directly with budget holders and senior leaders across the business to drive negotiation strategy on new spend and contract renewals.

This is a hands-on leadership role: part negotiation, part people management, part cross functional partnership. The right candidate is comfortable running vendor negotiations personally, coaching a team to do the same and while providing visibility to the organization.

What you’ll do

Set the vision, goals and roadmap for procurement in line with Checkr’s company and finance priorities, and own the KPIs used to measure the function (e.g., savings, cycle time, spend under management, policy compliance).

Lead the use of AI across the procurement lifecycle. Find the highest impact use cases, roll them out with the right controls and human review, and measure how they affect cycle time, savings and team capacity.

Lead and develop a high-performing procurement team, setting expectations, priorities and growth plans.

Build the operating system (intake SLAs, negotiation playbooks, escalation paths) that lets the team run efficiently as the company grows.

Partner with cross functional stakeholders to shape negotiation strategy for new spend and contract renewals.

Own Checkr's procurement policy, approval thresholds, and vendor onboarding/due diligence process.

Build the SOX controls over procurement and vendor spend.

What you bring

10+ years of experience in procurement, strategic sourcing, or vendor management, including 8+ years in leadership roles with a track record of concrete results

A track record of personally negotiating high-value, complex contracts across a range of spend categories (software/SaaS, professional services, facilities, etc.).

Hands-on experience with a procure-to-pay or intake/orchestration platform (Zip or comparable tools).

Strong cross-functional influence skills driving alignment with budget holders and stakeholders.

Comfortable operating in a fast-paced, high-growth environment with evolving process and tooling.

Clear, structured communication; able to translate procurement activity into terms finance and executive leadership can act on.

An A-player mindset with a strong bias for action: you raise the bar, move with urgency, stay resilient through ambiguity, and take ownership to deliver meaningful outcomes.
