The Opportunity:

The Director, Internal Communications, Europe, will shape and deliver clear, engaging communications that connect employees with the organisation’s culture, strategy and priorities. Working closely with global and regional stakeholders, the role will translate complex initiatives into actionable communications for country teams.

This is an intentionally broad remit, spanning a wide range of disciplines. We are realistic that priorities will need to be set and will evolve over time. We are seeking a versatile professional who approaches this breadth as an opportunity and who understands that the scope of the role reflects the scale of our ambition as a growing business.

Reporting to the VP, Corporate Affairs, Europe this role ensures that the Corporate Affairs strategy for Europe is helping enable the success of local country organizations across the region.  The strategy should also be aligned global Corporate Affairs strategies and will be part of the Global Internal Communications team.

Role dimensions:

Rallying Behind the Vision

Bring the global mission and company values to life through a compelling regional narrative that is relevant to different countries and cultures.

Translate strategic priorities into clear actions, connecting employees’ work and local initiatives to the organisation’s wider goals.

Share stories and create two-way communication opportunities that build understanding, engagement and support.

Partner with event and logistics teams to shape the content, format and employee experience for key internal company meetings and events.

Leadership Communications

Advise regional and country leaders on message, tone, timing and channel, drafting clear and authentic leadership communications.

Plan leader-hosted moments, including town halls and Q&As, and prepare leaders for high-profile or sensitive communications.

Establish a consistent communication rhythm and use employee feedback to strengthen leadership visibility and effectiveness.

Channel Strategy & Management

Work with the global communications team to define the purpose, audience and governance of channels used across country organisations in Europe.

Manage regional channels and editorial calendars, providing templates and guidance that support consistent, targeted communications.

Monitor performance and refine the channel mix to improve reach, accessibility, engagement and efficiency.

Business Partnering with Key Functions in Europe

Act as a strategic communications partner to Commercial, Human Resources, Legal, Supply Chain, Corporate Affairs, Market Access and IT leaders across Europe.

Develop clear, locally relevant communications that support functional priorities while remaining aligned with the organisation’s strategy and brand.

Create practical communication materials, coordinate activity across functions and use stakeholder feedback to improve effectiveness.

Scaling Systems & Change Adoption

Partner with relevant teams to communicate systems, policy and process changes in clear, accessible language.

Develop change communication plans and practical materials that explain what is changing, why it matters and what employees need to do.

Coordinate communication milestones and monitor understanding and adoption, providing additional support where needed.

Capability Building (Tech and AI) and Regional Alignment

Builds team fluency in AI-enabled tools for audience insight, message drafting, and real-time measurement and sets clear standards for responsible, compliant use.

Develops best-practice toolkits, guidance, and training that build local advocacy and policy capacity, including AI and digital literacy.

Treats digital and AI-enabled engagement as core, not optional, to contemporary corporate affairs & communications.

Fosters cross-country learning on emerging tools and practices.

Partners with Global to align European communications with the global narrative, feeding in global insights.

Required Skills, Experience and Education:

Degree in Law, Communications, Arts, Political Science, Public Health, Life Sciences, or a related field.

10+ years experience working in Communications

Excellent leadership, influence, and team mindset.

Strong ability to develop and deliver impactful Communications campaigns.

Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills, including storytelling and policy translation for lay audiences.

Skilled in managing complex stakeholder environments and partnerships.

Minimum 5 years in Internal Communications.

Pharma- or Biotech experience.

Strong digital communications skills, with experience running campaigns and stakeholder engagement across web, social, and other digital channels.

Hands-on fluency with generative AI tools for communications workflows (drafting, monitoring, sentiment analysis), with an understanding of responsible use, disclosure, and governance in a regulated industry.

Preferred Skills:

Fluency in English. German, French, Spanish or Italian are considered advantageous.
