Digital Production Manager
The Digital Production Manager leads online production across Outside Inc.'s site portfolio — building story pages from print and digital sources, managing photo assets, and maintaining the production resources that keep editorial and freelance teams moving fast. They're the connective tissue between Editorial and Product/Engineering, from bug triage to feature testing to documenting the fixes.
This is a hands-on, detail-driven role for someone who knows WordPress inside and out, has a sharp eye for UX, and thrives owning ambiguity in a fast-moving editorial environment.
Responsibilities:
Build story pages, drawing from print and digital editorial sources
Source and crop stock photos, format and add alt text/captions to writer-submitted photos, commission art and photos occasionally
Bug Tracking & Resolution: Participate in bug triage, serving as the liaison between editors and product/engineering to identify critical issues on production sites impacting editors
Collaboration with Engineering: Partner with engineering to test new features or bug fixes within WordPress and associated content sites, providing clear documentation with steps to reproduce
Strong written, verbal, and video communication skills; works well across diverse teams
Maintain SOT production resources to aid editorial staff and freelance producers; work with Engineering to integrate new features and communicate new standards across verticals
Prioritize tasks and find workflow efficiencies
Own SEO/GEO best practices on-page, staying current on how AI overviews and answer engines are reshaping search visibility
Deep understanding of UX, with the ability to translate best practices into on-page experiences
Detail-oriented and thorough in checking work before publication
Within 1 month, you will:
Onboard with Editorial, Video, and Audience Development teams to understand current workflows
Establish working relationships with production partners to ensure smooth operations and deadline compliance
Build story pages daily, drawing from print and digital editorial sources
Source and crop stock photos, format and add alt text/captions to writer-submitted photos, commission art and photos occasionally
Prioritize tasks and find workflow efficiencies
Within 3 months, you will:
Maintain SOT production resources; work with Engineering to integrate new features and communicate new standards across verticals
Participate in bug triage as liaison between editors and product/engineering
Partner with engineering to test new features/fixes and document steps to reproduce issues
Within 6 months, you will:
Partner with the product team on comprehensive site updates across the Outside Inc. network
What you bring:
5+ years proven experience in digital production for high-volume print and digital media
Strong written, verbal, and video communication skills
Works well across diverse teams
Deep understanding of UX, with the ability to translate best practices into on-page experiences
Close attention to detail and ability to QC work before publication
Expert proficiency in WordPress, Canva, Asana, Google Workspace; affiliate platform experience a plus
Strong SEO/GEO judgment, including a working understanding of how AI overviews and answer-engine results are changing search visibility
Ability to work cross-functionally with Video, Product, and Audience Development teams
What We Offer:
This is a fully remote role, and we welcome applicants based anywhere in the United States or Canada. The disclosure below is provided specifically to satisfy Colorado's pay transparency law for roles that could be performed there, it does not limit who may apply.
Entirely remote job that could be performed in Colorado: Employees can expect to be paid a salary of between $75,000 to $90,000. Additional compensation may include a bonus or commission. Additional benefits include health care, vision, dental, retirement, Flexible Time Away, sick leave, and more.
