Controls Engineer II (SCADA)
We are seeking a SCADA-focused Controls Engineer II to help drive the design, implementation, and maintenance of a custom SCADA platform and integrating equipment across Ursa Major’s cutting-edge propulsion manufacturing facilities. This role will provide exposure to system scopes ranging from bench-level equipment through to multi-facility staged processes.
The role will focus on developing Ursa Major’s SCADA platform, user interfaces, data historian and data warehousing. You will work with PLC/I&C and manufacturing engineers, technicians and platform engineering from equipment concept through to validation. You will implement solutions that enable robust, efficient, and safe propulsion manufacturing with a focus on operator experience.
This role will have top opportunity to help shape a digitally integrated advanced manufacturing line. The interfaces you design will be relied on for on-machine operation, diagnostics, as well as dashboards for data aggregation of production metrics.
Responsibilities:
Develop Ursa Major’s SCADA platform for advanced, digitally integrated manufacturing
Be an active stakeholder in developing and improving standards for SCADA implementation across multiple manufacturing facilities in northern Colorado
Work with platform and software engineering to develop robust data pathways between platforms and data aggregation
Design operator-first HMI for equipment operation within Ignition and Siemens TIA Portal
Participate in equipment development with consideration of product specifications, process requirements, layout complexity, cost, and lead-time limits
Be hands-on during the build process, working alongside engineers and technicians
Generate documentation, operator manuals, and work instructions for operation and maintenance
Contribute to internal production equipment standards and requirements documentation
Building and managing tag-based database tables, sequences, and queries
Requirements:
BS degree (Engineering or Computer Science) or equivalent experience
Experience or familiarity with Ignition SCADA & HMI, or similar platform
Ability to communicate effectively, both written and verbal
Ability to work flexibly in a fast-paced environment, collaborating with other functions and departments
Demonstrated ability to balance requirements of multiple stakeholders and deliver projects on time
Ability to perform physical tasks including standing for long periods, working on ladders, kneeling, crouching, working in tight spaces, lifting objects up to 25 lbs.
Preferred Experience:
BS degree in an engineering field, Mechatronic/chemical/mechanical or other
Familiarity with ISA standards
Experience designing, operating, or troubleshooting automated equipment
Experience with machine network design & industrial communications
Experience working with PLCs (Siemens or other)
Experience building industrial electrical control panels (Eplan or other)
Experience specifying/integrating sensors and actuators
Experience designing fluid systems (hydraulic/pneumatic)
Experience deploying, configuring, and maintaining Postgresql or other databases
Familiarity with NEC, UL, and other related industrial standards
Experience in production within ISO 9001 or AS9100 certified organizations
Experience performing Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA), LOPA, and System Safety and Hazards Analysis
Colorado law requires us to tell you the base compensation range of this role, which is $90,000 - $113,000, determined by your education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities. What we can’t quantify for you are the exciting challenges, supportive team, and amazing culture we enjoy.
