Cloud Platform Engineer
We are seeking a Cloud Platform Engineer to join our team and take ownership of the cloud platforms that power our Data Engineering, Analytics, and AI initiatives. In this senior technical role, you will combine infrastructure management, data platform enablement, and incident response to ensure reliable, secure, and cost-optimized data services across primarily AWS environments, with exposure to Azure and GCP. You will partner closely with our data and analytics teams to build scalable infrastructure, troubleshoot complex issues under pressure, and drive continuous improvements in operational excellence.
Key responsibilities & duties include:
Lead and support cloud platforms (primarily AWS, with exposure to Azure and GCP) used by Data Engineering, Analytics, and AI teams
Provision, configure, and manage core data infrastructure including data warehouses such as Redshift, BigQuery, and Teradata, object storage (S3), and messaging and integration services (SQS, queues, event-driven patterns)
Implement infrastructure using Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, AWS CDK) to ensure repeatability and governance
Partner closely with Data Engineers and Analysts to build and refresh schemas, create and manage views and data shares, and troubleshoot data quality, schema, and data-type issues
Support and operate data tooling including dbt, SnapLogic, Apache Airflow, and ETL/ELT pipelines across multiple data sources, ensuring downstream analytics tools such as Tableau, Looker, and QuickSight receive reliable, timely data
Act as a senior responder for platform and data incidents that threaten downstream business processes, delivering rapid diagnosis and resolution under time pressure while minimizing business impact, providing short-term workarounds and driving sustainable long-term fixes
Manage secure access to data platforms including schema-level access, data shares, and service permissions, maintain and update cloud policies (S3 bucket policies, IAM roles), support secure cross-account and cross-cloud integrations, and embed best practices for handling sensitive and regulated data
Optimize platform costs by selecting appropriate cloud services and monitoring usage and spend, implement observability across platforms including logging, metrics and alerting, and provide regular cost and usage reporting such as automated cloud cost reports
Design and maintain CI/CD pipelines for data platforms using tools such as GitHub Actions, automate data quality checks and testing, validate data integrity and completeness, and improve platform reliability through automation and standardization
Document incidents, resolutions, and runbooks to improve operational resilience and enhance team knowledge
Required Experience:
8+ years of experience in cloud platform engineering, infrastructure operations, or data engineering roles
Strong hands-on expertise with AWS (required), and familiarity with Azure or GCP
Demonstrated proficiency with Infrastructure as Code tools such as Terraform or AWS CDK
Solid experience managing data platforms and warehouses such as Redshift, BigQuery, or similar solutions
Strong troubleshooting and incident response skills with the ability to work effectively under pressure
Experience with data tooling including dbt, Apache Airflow, ETL/ELT pipelines, and analytics platforms
Desirable skills:
Experience with SnapLogic or other iPaaS/integration platforms
Familiarity with GitHub Actions or similar CI/CD tooling for data environments
Knowledge of cloud cost optimization strategies and tools
Background in aviation, airlines, or related industry domains
