Web Design Engineer
How This Role Makes a Difference
As a Web Design Engineer you will own how Care Access shows up on the web — designing and building the landing pages, campaign sites, and brand experiences that turn interest into action. You will work across the Care Access family of brands, moving fluidly between design and production front-end code, and partnering with web designers, illustrators, marketers, product engineers, web engineers, and DevOps. Some days you are 80% dev and 20% design; other days it is the reverse; and some days you are half project manager keeping several launches on track. You will join a growing design team and make valuable contributions to its culture.
How You'll Make An Impact
Design and build web experiences end to end
Take conversion-focused landing pages and brand experiences from first concept through production front-end code. Prototype in the browser so decisions get made against something working rather than a static mock. Sweat the interaction detail: states, transitions, loading and error behavior, and motion.
Own the look and feel of our corporate and marketing websites
Keep the experience coherent across many concurrent initiatives and brands. Build with SEO in mind — technical SEO, metadata, structured data, and site architecture. Maintain what already exists: redesigns, migrations, template debt, and keeping older campaign pages from rotting.
Collaborate across disciplines and communicate the work
Partner with web designers, illustrators, marketing, product engineers, web engineers, and DevOps. Present and defend work in reviews with stakeholders and leadership, with clear rationale behind the choices. Work transparently and share progress, early and often, with remote teams.
Scope, sequence, and quality-check the work
Break work down, size it, and flag trade-offs early rather than at the deadline. Run design QA on implementations, including builds that aren’t yours, so what ships matches what was intended.
The Expertise Required
A portfolio of shipped web work, ideally with live URLs and the code behind them
Strong production front-end skills: semantic HTML, modern CSS, JavaScript/TypeScript, and a framework like React, Next, or Astro
Real design craft — typography, layout, hierarchy, and restraint — with enough Figma fluency to work alongside designers and the confidence to design in the browser when that’s faster
Brand sensibility: the range to work within an established identity and the judgment to extend it to the web without breaking it
A feel for conversion-oriented web design and the willingness to let data settle the argument
CMS experience, headless or traditional (Contentful, Sanity, Webflow, or similar), and an eye for how marketers will actually use what you build
A version-controlled workflow you’re comfortable in: Git, branches, code review, CI
Cross-browser and real-device testing rigor — you check the work where people actually use it
Content sensibility: comfort working with copy, sometimes writing it, and knowing when the layout should bend to the words
Strong written communication — documentation, handoff notes, and async updates that keep a cross-functional group aligned
An ability to present remotely to communicate ideas and clearly convey your decision-making process
Self-direction in an environment where priorities shift: you can run several initiatives at once, sequence your own work, and communicate status without being asked
Enthusiasm for working with AI tools to prototype and iterate faster
Highly collaborative skills across marketing, design, product, engineering, and DevOps
A solid grounding in accessibility (WCAG, keyboard navigation, screen readers) and web performance
An interest in designing and building experiences that help people access healthcare and research
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience building and maintaining component libraries or design systems in code, not just consuming them
Full-stack capability — APIs, data, and server-side work when a site needs more than a front end
Product design and development experience, in-app and beyond the marketing site
DevOps expertise: build pipelines, environments, previews, deploys, and infrastructure
Experience in healthcare, clinical trials, or another regulated, trust-sensitive space
Experimentation and analytics work: A/B testing, event tracking, funnel instrumentation
Motion and animation work (Framer Motion, GSAP, or similar)
Localization or multi-language site experience
Illustration, 3D, or other visual skills beyond UI
Certifications/Licenses, Education, and Experience
Minimum Education:
Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent practical experience
Minimum Experience:
5+ years of professional web design and front-end development experience
