About the Triad Modernization Advisor Role

DEFCON AI is modeling how risk cascades across the nuclear Triad. When a schedule slips, a cost estimate breaches, or capacity comes up short in one program, the consequences rarely stay in that program. We make those second and third order effects visible early enough for a decision maker to do something.

We are looking for a Triad Modernization Advisor to bring firsthand nuclear enterprise experience to that effort. You will be the person on the team who can look at a model result and say whether it reflects how the enterprise actually behaves, and who can get the underlying data into shape when it arrives messy.

This is a 1099 consulting engagement of up to 20 hours per week. The role is primarily on-site in the Offutt AFB area, with some work performed remotely.

What you will do:

Triad Expertise:

Apply firsthand expertise in nuclear triad modernization to sharpen and validate our optimization models and decision support tools

Pressure-test model assumptions and outputs against how the enterprise plans, programs, and executes in reality

Work alongside an interdisciplinary team of optimization and simulation experts to design, build, and refine models that deliver real-world decision support

Partner directly with customers, product leadership, and external stakeholders

Data:

Organize, clean, and translate acquisition planning and budget datasets tied to legacy system sustainment and modernization programs

Interpret and visualize data on program cost, schedule, and performance

Reconcile data that arrives from multiple sources in different formats and may not agree with itself

What we are looking for

Firsthand experience in nuclear triad modernization. You have held program, requirements, resourcing, or operational planning responsibility inside one or more of these efforts.

Working command of the nuclear enterprise. Planning processes, acquisition programs, and the funding mechanisms behind them, including planning, programming, budgeting, and execution (PPBE) and program objective memorandum (POM) rhythms, milestone decisions, and appropriation categories.

Executive-level results. You have been accountable for analysis that informed resourcing or program decisions, and you have briefed and defended it at the O6, flag, or SES level.

Systems thinking. You can trace an effect across program, budget, and operational boundaries.

Communication in both directions. You can be useful to a modeler debugging an assumption in the morning and to a senior operational customer in the afternoon.

Clearance. Active Secret or above.

Location. Offutt Air Force Base commuting area.

Bonus points

Experience at or above the O4/GS-13 level in a Combatant Command J5, J8, or similar organization

Background in consulting, systems engineering, operational planning, or mission-focused solution development

Experience within operational commands, service headquarters, Joint Staff, OSW, or defense innovation organizations

Modeling, simulation, or operations research experience
