Staff Technical Program Manager
Okta is looking for a Staff Technical Program Manager to join our Toronto team, where you will operate as a senior individual contributor partnering with Engineering, Product Management, and Design to lead programs of large cross-organizational scope. You will drive initiatives spanning multiple teams and multiple product and technical areas, with cross-team dependencies and some ambiguity or risk, delivering outcomes with clear business value and impact.
The qualified candidate will bring strong TPM expertise honed across large-scale SaaS programs, along with the judgment to work with high autonomy and accountability, make independent decisions for the team, and take informed risks. You are a self-motivated individual who thrives on ambiguity and competing priorities, and who is ready to grow into broader organizational influence over time.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
Own and drive programs of large cross-org scope, spanning multiple teams and multiple product and technical areas, with high autonomy and accountability for successful outcomes.
Develop and implement the frameworks and methods that support program goals and successful outcomes across teams, management, and organizational leadership.
Structure and lead continuous and/or time-bound initiatives with cross-team dependencies by clarifying priorities, enabling execution of deliverables, and providing continuous transparency to stakeholders.
Serve as the overall program owner, working closely with team members to guide and coach them, while enabling the team to be empowered and accountable.
Be the program's voice to leadership, partners, and stakeholders, maintaining overall alignment; be on the front lines to handle replans, scope changes, and business pivots while keeping the team cohesive and progressing.
Anticipate and mitigate risk by maintaining close involvement with team goals and challenges, applying technical and domain expertise, and keeping the big picture in view; see beyond the immediate horizon to proactively identify risks and implement mitigations or contingencies.
Partner with leadership to understand organizational goals and priorities, incorporating them into program strategy, planning, and delivery decisions.
Elevate the throughput and effectiveness of teams and individuals; act as an advisor and mentor to less senior TPMs, leveraging your expertise and experience as an example for others.
Champion continuous improvement and agile best practices, looking for ways to optimize or push boundaries at a broader program level, and bring data-driven proposals for change to leadership for buy-in.
Minimum REQUIRED Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
8+ years of Technical Program Management experience, with a demonstrated track record operating at a Senior or Staff level on large-scale, cross-organizational SaaS programs.
Demonstrable experience navigating interdependencies affecting complex, cross-organizational programs (product and engineering alignment, engagement models, communications, and change management).
Experience driving programs end-to-end, from inception through General Availability and go-to-market.
Broad systemic understanding across technical disciplines, with solid technical understanding of product functionality, fundamental security concepts, and customer value; able to advise and consult with other teams on program approaches and best practices.
Experience interacting with leadership at all levels to strategize, advise, and build strong alignment on plans, progress, and desired outcomes.
Experience mentoring and coaching less senior TPMs.
Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to tailor messaging for audiences ranging from individual contributors to senior leadership.
Strong leadership skills; able to independently influence and resolve conflict across teams with competing priorities.
Self-starter who thrives in an ambiguous, fast-paced, and constantly changing environment.
Education and Training:
Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
Training in Agile and Scrum preferred.
