Staff Software Engineer, Security Engineering
About the role
This role is a Staff-level individual contributor position within the Security Engineering team, focused on Coalition Control, a security platform that helps protect our policyholders from cyber crime. You’ll own critical backend services end-to-end, have broad autonomy to shape technical direction and will serve as a technical multiplier for the broader engineering team. You’ll have access to leading AI tools so you can just cook.
Responsibilities
Ship product fast: Work with Product, Design and Engineering to turn high-level product goals into iterative plans, shape scope, and contribute to development in a full-stack capacity with depth and expertise in backend.
Strengthen the platform: Own the technical vision, architecture, and expansion of the backend systems powering Coalition Control, while contributing to other Coalition Security Products
Hold a high bar for engineering craft: Raise our standards for code, code reviews, testing, and reliability, leveraging AI-assisted workflows to build faster and reduce toil
Unblock and elevate the team: Guide other engineers through architectural trade-offs, provide thoughtful yet speedy code reviews, and sharing knowledge with others
Skills and Qualifications
Proven experience as a backend engineer designing and building distributed systems and cloud-based services in production.
Demonstrated technical leadership, including influencing architecture, setting technical standards, enabling other engineers, and collaborating effectively across teams.
Strong proficiency with AI workflows, Python/FastAPI, TypeScript/Node.js, or a similar modern backend language and framework. Experience with React.js is a plus.
Hands-on experience designing, implementing, and maintaining APIs, as well as integrating with third-party APIs or platforms.
Solid understanding of security concepts and practices, with experience in a cybersecurity domain is a plus, but not strictly required
Strong communication skills and a practical, outcome-oriented approach to problem solving.
Compensation
As a remote-first organization, our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several Canadian geographic markets.
In Alberta, British Columbia & Ontario the base salary for this position ranges from $176,000/year up to $226,000/year.
For all other locations, the base salary for this position ranges from $158,400/year up to $208,400/year.
Consistent with applicable laws, an employee's pay within this range is based on a number of factors, which include but are not limited to relevant education, skills, job-related knowledge, qualifications, work experience, credentials, and/or geographic location. Your Recruiter can share more on the specific target salary range for your location during the interview process. Coalition, Inc. reserves the right to modify this range as needed.
