Software Quality Engineer | Process Assurance
The Software Quality Engineer - Process Assurance will play a critical role in ensuring that all aspects of software development and certification across BETA Technologies' diverse programs meet the highest quality and regulatory compliance standards. You will support software quality processes for development and production of electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft, electric conventional takeoff and landing (eCTOL) aircraft, and electric propulsion systems. You will work closely with Systems, Software, and Hardware Subject Matter Experts (SMEs), Certification Engineers, Designated Engineering Representatives (DERs) and Designated Airworthiness Representatives (DARs), Configuration Management, and Safety Engineers to establish, maintain, and execute rigorous quality processes throughout the software development and certification lifecycle across all programs.
How you will contribute to revolutionizing electric aviation:
Execute Software Quality Assurance (SQA) activities and audits across certification and production programs (airborne and non-airborne software), including process improvements, lifecycle audits, and compliance verification
Manage and maintain Software Quality Assurance records in accordance with applicable standards including DO-178C, DO-254, ARP4754A/B, AS9115A, and AS9125
Conduct internal audits of the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) processes, data, and traceability to ensure regulatory compliance and identify process gaps
Perform Root Cause and Corrective Action (RCCA) investigations for internal nonconformities, documenting findings and recommending systemic improvements
Report quality progress, risks, and audit findings to key stakeholders, including leadership and certification authorities
Participate in design reviews, requirements traceability analyses, and configuration management activities to ensure software quality from conception through certification
Collaborate with cross-functional teams across multiple programs to identify and resolve software defects, non-conformances, and compliance issues
Maintain and update SQA procedures, checklists, and work instructions to reflect regulatory requirements, industry best practices, and program-specific needs
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Software Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or Quality Assurance/Management discipline
2+ years of professional experience in aerospace systems development lifecycle with exposure to certification processes
Working knowledge of DO-178C (and supplements), DO-254, ARP4754A, AS9115, and/or AS9125 compliance standards
Familiarity with FAA regulations including Part 33, Part 27, Part 25, Part 23, or eVTOL/eCTOL certification requirements
Proficiency with Polarion and JIRA for requirements traceability and defect management
Strong analytical and methodical approach to problem-solving with the ability to independently investigate complex issues and recommend solutions
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly document findings and collaborate across technical disciplines
Meticulous attention to detail and commitment to accuracy in compliance-critical environments
Ability to work both independently and collaboratively with diverse teams of engineers and subject matter experts
Flexibility and adaptability to support multiple concurrent programs with varying regulatory and technical requirements
Above and Beyond Qualifications:
Hands-on experience performing Software Part and Installation Conformity Inspections in accordance with FAA Order 8110.49A
Track record conducting internal audits of software lifecycle processes and quality system compliance
Direct experience with Root Cause and Corrective Action (RCCA) investigations and leading process improvement initiatives
Prior experience on electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL), electric conventional takeoff and landing (eCTOL), electric propulsion, or advanced aerospace programs
Experience with FAA certification processes, including engagement with Designated Engineering Representatives (DERs) or certification authorities
Experience supporting both airborne and non-airborne software development and quality processes
Demonstrated passion for aviation safety, quality-driven development, and environmental sustainability
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
Ability to work in a collaborative office environment with cross-functional engineering teams
Capable of sitting for extended periods while reviewing technical documentation and conducting audits
Comfortable with occasional travel for on-site audits, supplier visits, manufacturing observations, or test activities
Ability to read, interpret, and analyze complex technical documents, schematics, and software specifications
Must be available to support critical project phases and certification milestones, which may require flexible scheduling
Work is performed in a professional office setting with standard office equipment; exposure to manufacturing or test environments may occur during audits or on-site activities
