Software Engineer II, Compliance Core
Compliance Core builds and operates the platform that customers rely on to evaluate blockchain risk in real time and continuously monitor activity across billions of transfers. Our systems screen transfers and withdrawals, reassess exposure as new information arrives, aggregate risk at the user and organization level, and power datasets used by other teams and customers.
As a Software Engineer II on Compliance Core, you’ll build and maintain the backend services and data processing systems behind these capabilities. You’ll work with engineers and Product partners to deliver customer features, improve performance and reliability, and modernize the platform through incremental changes and safe rollouts.
We’re looking for an engineer who takes ownership of scoped projects, enjoys solving distributed systems problems, and cares about the correctness and operational health of the software they ship. You’ll contribute to design decisions, learn from experienced teammates, and grow your impact as you develop expertise in our systems and the compliance domain.
IN THIS ROLE, YOU’LL:
- Build and maintain backend services and APIs that support transfer and withdrawal screening, continuous monitoring, and risk aggregation.
- Develop event-driven data ingestion and processing systems that handle growing volumes of blockchain activity with a focus on correctness, throughput, and latency.
- Own scoped features and improvements from design through implementation, testing, deployment, and production support, with guidance on broader architectural decisions.
- Contribute to platform modernization by improving existing services and helping deliver incremental migrations with safe rollouts.
- Work with Product and partner engineering teams to clarify requirements, discuss tradeoffs, and deliver changes that address customer needs.
- Improve automated tests, monitoring, and documentation so the team can understand system behavior and detect problems early.
- Participate in code reviews, debug production issues, and contribute to incident response and blameless postmortems that improve our systems.
WE’RE LOOKING FOR CANDIDATES WHO HAVE:
- Experience using AI-assisted development tools to make the development process more efficient, grounded in strong engineering fundamentals, with examples of how you verified AI-generated output and improved the result.
- Experience building and maintaining backend services in production, including APIs and database integrations.
- Proficiency in an object-oriented programming language. We primarily use Java and welcome engineers with experience in other languages who are ready to learn.
- Experience developing cloud-based services on AWS or another major cloud provider, and an understanding of microservices and distributed systems fundamentals.
- Experience with SQL and relational databases, including designing data models and writing queries.
- Familiarity with event-driven architectures or streaming applications, and an understanding of how failures, retries, and duplicate events affect data correctness.
- A record of delivering well-tested code, diagnosing issues, and taking responsibility for the software they build.
- Clear communication and a collaborative approach to working with engineering and Product partners.
- Interest in blockchain and cryptocurrencies, or eagerness to learn. Prior blockchain experience is not required.
NICE TO HAVE:
- Experience with Java and Spring, Kafka, or Apache Flink.
- Experience with Kubernetes, Docker, Terraform, or production observability tools.
- Experience improving or migrating production systems while maintaining service continuity.
- Experience with customer-facing systems that have strict latency or availability requirements.
- Background in compliance, payments, fraud, or another regulated domain.
