Software Engineer (Contract, Argentina)
This is an independent contractor engagement in Argentina. Deel will serve as Contractor of Record and will contract with and pay the independent contractor. The independent contractor will provide services to Greenhouse on a non-exclusive basis, may provide services to other clients, and will be responsible for determining the manner and means of performing the services, subject to the applicable statement of work and agreed deliverables. This engagement is not an employment relationship with Greenhouse. No employment relationship, social benefits, or labor entitlements under Argentine Law 20,744 are created by this engagement.
Through this arrangement, Deel is hiring an independent contractor to provide services to the Employer Experience and Talent Discovery Team. This team builds the experiences and signals that help employers find the right talent faster, while creating the foundation for a trusted talent discovery ecosystem.
This role will support the development and maintenance of the Company’s web-based applications as part of an approximately 12-month engagement. In this role, you’ll contribute to Talent Matching, Talent Rediscovery, and related employer-facing experiences. You’ll work across the stack to build product capabilities and the search and matching systems behind them, with a particular focus on OpenSearch or Elasticsearch and practical applications of AI to matching, ranking, and search relevance.
This is a collaborative, execution-focused, non-exclusive engagement. You will spend the majority of your time in the code building features, fixing bugs, and ensuring our products remain stable and performant for users.

What you’ll do
Collaborate with Product Managers and Designers to define requirements and build product experiences from conception through delivery
Build and improve full-stack experiences for Talent Matching, Talent Rediscovery, and related talent discovery workflows
Design and ship search-backed capabilities using OpenSearch or Elasticsearch, including indexing, query design, relevance tuning, ranking, and semantic retrieval
Develop matching systems that combine keyword, structured, semantic, and AI/ML signals to improve match quality
Partner with Applied ML and cross-functional engineering teams to evaluate trade-offs across relevance, latency, reliability, infrastructure cost, and user trust
Build evaluation, observability, testing, and feedback mechanisms to continuously improve matching quality
Develop clean, efficient, maintainable, and scalable production code for core services
Contribute to code reviews and engineering practices
Additional projects as needed within the scope of the engagement
You should have
5+ years of experience writing production code
Experience with Ruby, C#, Java, or Python; Ruby and Rails preferred
Strong JavaScript or TypeScript fundamentals, including React
Full-stack experience across backend systems, APIs, data modeling, and modern frontend development
Deep experience with OpenSearch or Elasticsearch in production, including indexing, query design, relevance tuning, and performance trade-offs
Experience building search, ranking, recommendation, or matching systems
Practical experience applying AI or ML techniques in production, such as embeddings, semantic search, classification, or ranking
Experience collaborating with Product and Design in ambiguous, user-facing problem spaces
Experience with analytical databases, a plus
