Senior Traffic Engineer - Rail

Unlike traditional traffic engineering roles, Olsson's Rail Traffic team combines traffic engineering with railroad coordination and project delivery. Our engineers are encouraged to develop technical expertise and project management skills. You can expect direct client interaction, project coordination, and ownership of project delivery activities as you work with Class I railroads, state DOTs, local agencies, and other consultants on projects that improve safety and mobility nationwide. This is position is your pathway to technical leadership in a niche market.

Olsson’s Rail Traffic experts provide clients with a single resource for services such as traffic signal preemption design, grade crossing safety design, traffic operations studies, and other related services. As a Senior Engineer for the Rail Traffic team, you can build your career by developing expertise in traffic and preemption analysis and design. Your responsibilities will include conducting site visits, reviewing and preparing plans and/or studies, and collaborating closely with team members on complex projects. This position offers an opportunity to engage in multifaceted tasks that are crucial for successful project outcomes.

Senior Engineers on the Rail Traffic team can expect occasional travel to job sites for observation and to attend client meetings.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Ability to contribute and work well on a team

Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering

Must possess a Professional Engineer (PE) license

8+ years of traffic or transportation engineering experience

Traffic engineering design experience

Strong problem-solving and math skills

Colorado Pay Range

$125,000—$173,000 USD

Minnesota Pay Range

$115,000—$160,000 USD
