Senior Software Engineer – Release Automation & CI/CD (Mobile)

We are seeking a highly technical Senior Software Engineer to design, build, and scale our Release Automation and CI/CD platform for mobile applications. This is a 100% hands-on engineering role initially, with the opportunity to grow into technical leadership based on performance and capability.

The ideal candidate combines a strong software engineering background with deep expertise in CI/CD, release automation, cloud infrastructure, and developer tooling. This is not a traditional DevOps role—we are looking for an engineer who can architect robust automation solutions, write production-quality code, and build scalable infrastructure that supports our Android and iOS development teams.

You will play a key role in modernizing our engineering workflows, improving developer productivity, and building reliable release pipelines from source code through deployment to the Google Play Store and Apple App Store.

What You’ll Be Doing

Release Automation & CI/CD

Design, build, and maintain scalable CI/CD pipelines using Buildkite.

Automate build, test, signing, packaging, and deployment processes for Android and iOS applications.

Improve release reliability, deployment speed, and developer productivity through automation.

Implement automated release workflows for Google Play Store and Apple App Store deployments.

Troubleshoot build failures, deployment issues, and release bottlenecks.

Software Engineering

Develop production-quality software using Python, following software engineering best practices (not just scripting).

Build reusable automation frameworks and internal developer tooling.

Design maintainable, modular, and testable solutions that improve engineering efficiency.

Participate in architecture discussions, technical design reviews, and code reviews.

Cloud & Infrastructure

Build and maintain Infrastructure as Code using Terraform.

Support cloud-native deployments in AWS.

Deploy and manage containerized workloads using Docker and Kubernetes.

Integrate infrastructure, security, and deployment automation into CI/CD pipelines.

Source Control & Release Management

Implement Git best practices, branching strategies, versioning, and release management.

Manage end-to-end mobile application releases from source control through production deployment.

Continuously improve release automation processes and engineering standards.

AI-Assisted Engineering

Leverage AI-assisted development tools to accelerate software development and automation.

Preferably use Claude Code (or comparable AI coding assistants) to improve engineering productivity.

Validate, test, and review AI-generated code to ensure quality, security, maintainability, and correctness.

Identify opportunities to integrate AI into engineering workflows while maintaining high engineering standards.

Technical Leadership (Future Growth)

Mentor engineers and promote engineering best practices.

Lead technical design reviews and architecture discussions.

Drive continuous improvement of release automation, developer tooling, and CI/CD standards.

Influence technical direction through hands-on engineering excellence.

Requirements

6+ years of experience in Software Engineering, DevOps, Platform Engineering, Release Engineering, or Infrastructure Automation.

Strong software engineering background with experience building production-quality applications.

Advanced experience designing and implementing CI/CD pipelines.

Hands-on experience with Buildkite or similar enterprise CI/CD platforms.

Strong experience with Git, including branching strategies, versioning, and release management.

Experience managing end-to-end mobile application releases for Android and iOS, including deployments to Google Play Store and Apple App Store.

Strong programming experience in Python (software engineering level, not just scripting).

Experience building Infrastructure as Code using Terraform.

Hands-on experience with AWS cloud services.

Experience with Docker and Kubernetes.

Strong debugging and troubleshooting skills across distributed systems and deployment pipelines.

Experience integrating automated testing into CI/CD workflows.

Nice to Have

Experience developing internal developer platforms or engineering productivity tools.

Experience with Bash, Helm, or Ansible.

Experience with DevSecOps practices, including security scanning, SBOM generation, and GitHub Advanced Security (GHAS).

Experience with monitoring and observability tools such as Datadog or Splunk.

Previous backend, frontend, or mobile software development experience.

Experience improving release engineering processes in large engineering organizations.

AI Experience (Highly Preferred)

We expect engineers to use AI-assisted development tools as part of their daily workflow.

Preferred experience includes:
